I keep seeing 50cc scooters around town. I think I might like one. Where do people get them in Moberly? I've checked in several places and nobody seems to have scooters? Thanks!

NONE of them are legal to drive without a valid Missouri Drivers Lic....the ones less than 50cc do not have to have a license plate....but to operate either, you MUST a driver's license.

Yes you have to have a license. You do not have to pay personal property taxes on it. You pay taxes on it when you buy it and then never again. You do not have to have plates or insurance however if you cause an accident you better be prepared to financially make it right out of pocket. You can license and insure them though.
They don't have a lot of power but they do get 120 miles out of a gallon. You cannot ride them on the highway they don't go fast enough to keep up with the slowest you can go which is 45 to 55 mph on the highway. 49cc can't do it! 45mph down hill with the wind at your back maybe.

If they are going to let these scooters run around the streets of Moberly then golf carts should be aloud also. There are some towns that let them run with license. A golf cart is no more a hazard then someone darting around on those crazy scooters.

With high gas prices it would be nice to have one. How expensive are they?

I gave $1800 for mine at Lee's. I've had it for 5 years now and love it. Yes you have to have a valid Missouri license to operate it on the roads. It does get 120 mpg which I love very much as well.
Agreed about the golf carts. As long as they have head and brake lights, turn signals and will do at least 30 mph! If not then they belong on the golf course. And golfers have to remember on the roadway you can't have a alcoholic drink in hand HAHA...

I agree with the alcoholic drinks. I'll leave mine on the golf course. HaHa. I think on the pavement golf carts could do 30 MPH. I would have one with headlights, license and turn signals if it were possible with the economy like it is I think it would be a good thing. I grant you there is some parts of Moberly that it couldn't run a cart - they shouldn't be aloud to run those scooters except certain parts of Moberly also.

Scooters and mopeds, if they fall under the category of "motorized bicycle," don't have to be registered. Missouri DMV officially uses the following criteria to define a motorized bicycle:

Two or three wheels.

Automatic transmission

Motor with a cylinder capacity of less than 50 cubic centimeters.

Motor produces less than three gross brake horsepower.

Cannot have a maximum speed of more than 30 miles per hour on flat ground.

If your scooter can travel more than 30 miles per hour or has a cylinder capacity of more than 50 ccs must be registered as a motorcycle, and requires a motorcycle license.

You do have to have a valid state drivers license to operate a 49cc Scooter on any roadway in the state.
You do not have to license or insure it. If you hit something though you better be ready to pay damages.
You pay taxes on it when you buy it and do not have to pay any additional or yearly property taxes.
You are required to have a valid state drivers license even if it is under 49cc. If it is above 49cc you also have to have a motorcycle endorsement on you valid state license.
If you get caught without a drivers license pray they cop is in a good mood. They like most bring "home" to work with them, thus if the significant other was a "beech" the night before you're going to get into trouble.

You copy/pasted.
I am educated but I'm also experienced. Before your copy/paste you typed that you didn't think you had to have a license, how a 'friend' of yours got a DWI and got a scooter to get around.
WRONG answer! You do have to have a valid state drivers license. You get a DWI a scooter will not help you. May as well drive a car.

Do you know where the shift key is on your keyboard?
Try using it and maybe you would seem educated. Or continue with the copy/paste and pretend to be. Whatever makes you feel good.
