She is very passionate about her work. She doesn't do it for the money. Did you have multiple run ins with her since your name is "sick of it"? Maybe she had to get rude to get her message across.

Yes, many times had a run-in with her. It was horrible every single time.

She once threatened to call an officer to my home unless I told her MY name as the owner of a dog that wasn't mine. Pretty great. She refused to accept the REAL owners name because they were in jail at the time - and thus couldnt pay the stupidly large fine for a dog that isnt doing anything to hurt anyone.

Just ridiculous, and obviously enjoys taking whatever her problems are out on others.

not multiple run ins with her. Just rude as all could be. Wasn't even my dog. Needed help with the situation and she acted like it was my fault. Doesn't even act like she likes dogs to begin with. Passionate is a word I would use for someone who is nice and acts like they like their job. Professional courtesy from a city employee would have been nice, and represented the city alot better.

Not sure if it was the same lady, but my wife had to call animal control about a baby raccoon stuck in our back yard. She said the person who helped her was really nice. I don't recall if it was a woman.

Our family dog was picked up in November because we "..were starving her to death...". We actually have two dogs, but we were "starving" one. Where's the logic in that? My wife nor I was here at the time the dog was picked up so when we found out my wife called the catcher. Of course it turned into a shout match, the catcher's argument was that the dog's food bowls were empty to which my wife replied, "There's no food on your plate when you're done eating either is there?!" Nonetheless, we received a citation and a court date was set and my wife went and plead "not guilty"; my stepson, my wife or myself fed her once a day, of the evening TWICE what's recommended on the bag. My wife was allowed to bring her homer from the helter the day of the hearing due the fact she was pregnant. The very next day she had 3 pups....

On January 29th we returned to court for the actual trial. I was called a witness and they showed me photos taken the day she was picked up; she looked skinny but not "starving". I told the prosecutor
" She is a VERY hyper dog, chasing or barking at anything that moves; squirrels, cats, other dogs, people... whatever. She never stops moving only to sleep I suppose." They also had photos from the day before we picked her up, the exact DAY BEFORE she gave birth to 3 pups, claiming she had gained all this weight while in the care of the shelter. Of course it was because she was pregnant! I told them that....
There were also photos attached to a sheet of paper, I was told I "wasn't allowed to comment on the state of the dog's condition in those particular photos" Why not? She didn't appear the way the court WANTED her to appear in order to hold up there claim, that's why!

We were found guilty just the same and payed a nice gratuity to the city of Moberly.

I find it hard to believe that someone would go through all of that with no cause. I volunteered at the shelter around this time and saw a boxer I believe that looked absolutely horrific. I'm not sure if this was/is your dog but I pray that it wasn't. My heart hurt for this animal. I own a very energetic dog who eats twice a day and runs like it's life depends on it and he's never looked as malnourished as some of the animals that go through that shelter. Again, I don't know that this was your dog however if someone felt as if it was starving and you were found guilty then I believe justice was served.

You don't think a fine of over $150 is worth this amount of trouble? Pretty good money if she finds a "starving" dog once a day, isn't it? I don't mind when justice is served but I despise paying the city just when I feel it's only about the money that's from collected in "the name of justice".

If you don't look at and love your animals as much as you would a family member i.e. kids, brother, sisters, parents... find it a home that will.
I wouldn't have a dog and not love it like I do my kids. And by luck the old girl I had to put down and this puppy we have now loves us equally!
Feed and water your dogs. If you're keeping them on a chain you are MEAN! Period! Make sure you walk it and walk it A LOT or else you just MEAN!
If it's outside dog like my boy is and it's cold, make sure it has food, water and something to keep warm with.
I'm sick of seeing dogs treated so MEAN! If you don't love them don't have them.

You welcome. It's not hard and as long as you're not breaking the law you won't have to pay any fines. If someone is starving a dog they deserve to pay a fine and NOT EVER BE ALLOWED TO HAVE DOGS OR KIDS ON THEIR PROPERTY!!!
Why not kids you ask well obviously if they can't take care of and love a dog we'll be finding yet another dead kid!

I know the Moberly ACO and she DOES very much like dogs and takes her job seriously. The shelter has made MANY improvements since she has started working there. Bettering things for the dogs! If you can't take care of your pet, then don't have one. No reason a dog should be kept out on a chain all the time and ignored. No reason a dog should be brought in as skin and bones. I am at the shelter on a regular basis and have seen several dogs that are owner surrenders that are terrified of people and half starved and in awful shape. Our shelter ACO and volunteers are amazing and put their own TIME and MONEY into that shelter. Many volunteers bring these dogs into their homes and work with them and help them find amazing homes or rescue groups. Many volunteers put their own money into vet care for these dogs that other people couldn't be bothered with doing. The shelter is at a much better place now than it was in the past! You should be glad you have an ACO that cares about the dogs and tries to make a difference. She gets MANY phone calls a day to check out dogs. Her JOB is to check into those phone calls. She wouldn't be doing her job otherwise. If she were to ignore phone calls people would be complaining she wasn't doing anything or enough. But yet when she does what she is supposed to people scream they are being picked on. When she gets 20 DIFFERENT phone calls from people in the COMMUNITY about the SAME DOG there's a problem. Atleast she works to keep dogs alive in our shelter, helps get them adopted into good homes and helps them get into rescue groups, would any of YOU do that if you were ACO? OR would you just pile them in the gas chamber and gas them all to death so they aren't a "problem" anymore??

To American_Ninja:
Those that protest the most usually are guilty or have something to hide. The ACO is great and does a wonderful job. I was there when that boxer was there, volunteering, and it was skinny and at that point she wasn't noticably pregnant, she had probably just become pregnant so being emaciated had nothing to do with her being pregnant. Get her spayed, easy, tied up outside she is going to get pregnant again, where is she going to go when another dog comes around. She was cared for and well fed and loved until the day you got her back. If you can't take care of her properly find her a new home, but leave the ACO alone she is the best.

This is the first time I have ever commented and yeah there have been a few posts that I have wanted to but I have held off until now. Yes I am a volunteer also at the shelter. I too have witnessed how kind the ACO is to these animals and how she is passionate about her job. Her interactions with people. This lady takes her job serious and does a great job at it. Try walking a day in her shoes. Lets start the day with say being called to pick up a stray dog and fielding phone calls about a persons who lost their dog, picking up a vicious dog,re-homing the wild life that makes its way in to our town. While all this is going on having to deal with people that are careless with their own pets...YES I have seen quite a few emaciated dogs come through the shelter. While that might not bother some it does bother the ACO because it is horrid site to see a animal in. So then she has to deal with the public eye and its criticism. Yes I know she hired on for that job but that still does not make it right that she should have to tolerate derogatory comments about her in a topix forum for doing her job. As said above, some will complain no matter what. It is a truly sad situation when someone comments on how they have had several run ins or their dog was removed due to being malnourished. That is what is wrong with this world today,no one can accept responsibility for their own actions and wants to look elsewhere to place blame. This lady works hard at making sure these dogs are fed and watered,up to date on shots ,dewormed, vet. runs finding GOOD placement for these dogs meaning foster, adopters and rescues. So from knowing the ACO and having her interact with me ad other volunteers and the city patrons I can say keep up the great work that you do. If by chance you read this dont pay any attention to the negative comments in the above posts. God bless you.

Moberly's ACO is THE BEST! Take care of your dogs and you'll never have to have an uncomfortable situation with her. To those who love and care for their pets, thank you! To those who don't, at least have the heart to give your dogs to a loving home.

You said it best! Our animal shelter has made vast improvements to create more options for animals. As long as you take responsibility for your pet and treat them right you will never find yourself in court paying fines. Which might I add Ninja, it costs ALOT more than $150 to do what was done with your dog. The wages for city employees, court costs, rehabilitation, housing, food, etc far outweigh the mere $150 you paid. So, I can firmly say that she isn't in it for the money because there isn't any money to be made. I am upset that your pet (although I wouldn't call it a pet in your case) was allowed to go home with you. Unfortunately we can't save them all however she had a chance and I pray that you have learned your lesson and that chance she had isn't in vain.

Sounds to me like she is doing her job very well. Take care of your pets. Keep them in your own yard. I am getting tired of having to shoot the cats that keep coming in my yard just to take a dump!
