I am on reed street and saw a bunch of cops chase a gold jeep at high speed! They went by three times. What happened?

A guy got arrest for stealing a car, he also pulled a gun on the police. They drew their weapons, he dropped his and was arrested. I think bond is 20,000

He was all over town man, came by our house twice. We called the grandparents and listened to the scanner through the phone. They gave the order to "take him down", we thought he was a goner.

I think he was on foot at some point too. We definitely saw the gold jeep fly by, the ladies at casey's said he ran through their parking lot.

It was kind of scary. I'm glad the kids weren't home.

Why in the heck did they chase him all through town?? They came down our residential street...my little boy rides his bike all the time. Someone could have got hurt or killed. Did the Moberly police think this was the best solution?? I'm no cop, but it seems kind of like the Rusty Self thing....chase him and think later.....

So if the kid had stole your car you'd rather the cops let him go? It was a pellet gun and nobody got killed. They don't keep kids or even adults in jail forever for shooting a pellet gun. Hell they wouldn't keep him forever if someone had died, no matter how stupid he obviously is. The kid is real lucky nobody was hurt or killed. They have enough on him to lock him up for awhile but not forever. Until he does kill he'll be free again. I personally think the cops try to do the right thing when faced with a situation. If you all are human you know sometimes hind sight is 20/20. You telling me you've never done something and then later thought I wish I'd of done this instead because that was dangerous or stupid. Hopefully that's what the car theif kid is thinking, how stupid he is. The cops didn't steal the car, they chase down the dumbass that did. That's kind of their job though, right. If you don't like the way they do their job, if your car gets stolen don't call on them. Go find it yourself but don't chase it down wait till??? I guess the thief stops to use the bath room. JEEZE!

Yes, you should stop and wait til the theif uses the bathroom!!! A life isn't worth any car. That's what insurance is for. And I'm not saying let him go or forget about it, I'm saying wait until they can take him into custody without harming someone in a car chase!

let's do away with the tazer freakin cops then and go back to the old wild west where individuals make their own laws and take care of themselves, it would save some tax payers money, more worried about materialistic items than life that's hilarious since you don't even know me, how i live or what kind of materials i have (and don't have) since i don't have or want a car i don't have to worry about it one way or the other, maybe people should go back to walking, this would save A LOT of lives!!! oh and yeah JEEZE

Clearly a cop!!! If you know who it is and it's a small town, why endanger the public for a stolen car. Chase him until it becomes too dangerous for a populated area, then back off and get him later. It's Protect and serve, Not get him at ALL cost! wanted for murder or something I can see chasing harder. Look officer, just as you say "So if the kid had stole your car you'd rather the cops let him go?" which is dumb by itself... I have insurance! Let me pose this question, If it was your mother, child, family member or loved one that was to get killed chasing an idiot who stole a car and cops chasing him down residential streets at ridiculous speeds would you say oh well at least that guy got his car back? Would you blame only the thief or would you find fault in the entire situation? You would be pissed because it is the wrong call. In Kansas City we have a 3 mile chase rule for car theft and it saves lives! My guess the entire town of Moberly would freak out because most of the citizens see your department as an enemy. Make no mistake, YOU Moberly Police officers brought this on yourselves! Try and protect and serve and not find any reason you can to stop the citizens of moberly and see what they are doing wrong. Just because you have a badge doesn't make it right. You would think after you killed that kid and paid the family millions of tax payer dollars you would use better judgement!

"That's kind of their job though, right. If you don't like the way they do their job, if your car gets stolen don't call on them. Go find it yourself but don't chase it down wait till???"

Spoken like a true small town uneducated Moberly Police Officer. It is becoming harder to tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys in Moberly! I'm sure you received your criminal justice certification from MACC. Which is why you live and work in Moberly!!

So they should have let him go? That's retarded. What kind of precedent will that set? If they did that, every car chase would end up going to residential areas because the bad guys would know the cops would stop chasing them. You actually think that would be safer for everyone? No, it would be a nightmare.

I would say the ones that are worried about their kids are the ones that have the basketball goal faced so the kids play in the street. Teach your kids to watch and not play in the road and if they're small go out, stay with and watch for them. Teach them right from wrong and teach them to respect the law. It's parents like you that raise kids like this theif, cause you've taught them they are better then the law. Your poor kids!

They had 20 minutes worth of chasing him through town to think about how dangerous it was. To be honest I was boiling about this whole thing until the Mamtek cards fell. IMO, Mamtek did the Moberly PD a favor in this regard. I could almost care less now. But still, I love how the police solved the problem, car wrecked, officer hurt. Not a solution. If the car is still in town a week after being stolen, it's probably not going anywhere. The second he pulled off of 63 onto Urbandale, let him go, radio it in and track him from a distance until he stops. Patrol the streets until you see the jeep. This is not rocket science. Thank you crazy police chases in LA for teaching us what to and not to do in these situations.

It amazes me how many people think they know how and can do law enforcement officers job better. Get you dumb a$$es in LETC and show me or shut the hell up!
fyi, to those who think you know every thing, again I am not a cop! I've been to jail a couple of times but I happen to respect them for the job they do. They put their own lives on the line so you people can sit and complain about how you can do it better. Go do it then dumba$$!

Let him go and catch him later? He would only say it wasn't him. Gotta catch them red handed. I say just shoot em. Need to start making examples out of these situations so people will think twice before committing the crime.
