This June 25, 2008 photo shows an aerial view just north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, where the world's largest oil companies are building massive open pit mines to get at the oil sands. Full Story

re: "In 2008, more than 1,600 ducks died after landing on a northern Alberta toxic waste pond that contained pollution generated in the oil sands separation process."

Tough for the ducks!!! If you are driving down the road and run over a pothole vs. swerving six inches to miss it, same goes for you ... tough!

One flock of ducks that made a bad decision out of how many hundreds of flocks that may have flown over that pond? There is no need to get excited over this although the environmentalists and 'crats will have a field day over it.

Could that damn awful splittin' headache Budweiser be used instead of the good stuff you mention? I once hit a hole while on pot while duckin' ALBERTA. If I would have swerved my 6 inches either way, I would have been ok; I know tough. Use whatever method required to release us from the hold of the Muslim frickin' Arabs; NOW! We can always import more ducks from China as we need them, correct?

Look, we really need short sighted gimmicks that poison the land for generations, while further enriching a tiny cadre of wealthy financial tricksters. It doesn't matter if the Canadian experiment has proven the land and water nearby will be permanently destroyed. Let's see what kind of lies our boys can come up with, and then we can repeat them to any dirty hippies who think we should be "custodians" of our resources, and leave a little something for our "children". Only communists want anything for their kids. Americans want it all, now, with no consequences, and to hell with the stupid coming generations. Puhleeze.

Hippies and treehuggers unite! Who cares if gas goes up to five dollars a gallon, I'll ride my bike and drive a Volt to work. Forget about people who don't live in cities and must commute to work. It's their own fault for not wanting to pay higher property taxes.
Force them to get rid of their SUVs and big pickup trucks so they can sit and spin in the snow like the rest of us. Down with corporate America who gives us jobs and pays for our food. Well just steal nuts from squirrels and eat tree bark.
Puhleeze.

Exactly ! If we don't wipe out hundreds of square miles of red rock desert, the Saudi's will charge us more for their gas. The same thing happened 3 summers ago. They could tell we weren't doing anything about turning toxic mud into fuel, so we got charged $4.50 a gallon, which led immediately to the collapse of the auto industry, since no one wanted gas hogs anymore. Without a gas hog, no one can get to work. Then, everyone stopped working, and the price of gas came down. It's simple free market economics. Without the mega corps, no one can have a job. We owe everything to big oil and the billions dollar behemoths, and it will always be that way. We are happy slaves, and anyone crying about "freedom" is free to freeze and starve. You got it, amigo.
