In the news last night, "Sluggo" David admitted that 5-10% of the 500,000 records HE has online (and with a "portal" thru the Tax Assessor's site") contain SSNs. By doing the math he admits that he has about 50,000 SSNs on his website. Well, if David' little website contains that many, then the Shelby County Register of Deeds has several times more than that on that site. I estimate that there are about 120,000 or more on the Shelby Register's site. They obviously don't care that that many SSNs are accessible to anyone anywhere in the world - esp. identity thieves. There have been documented cases of ID theft to gov't sites. Why Leatherwood, Davis and Parker Pickle don't see the light is beyond me. Oh, and their SSNs are no where on any site. I checked. please visit my site at www.TheVirginiaWatchdog.com to read about this issue. I've been trying to stop stupid elected officials for over seven years now and little by little I'm succeeding. But citizens need to spread the word about this issue. Thanks.

ss number are required my the Government. If they are letting the SS out then they should be held liable for any identity theft problem.

I think it is unreal that everyboy on the credit cards, auto financing, mortgage companies, and almost everyone else these days will not talk TO YOU IF YOU DO NOT GIVE THE LASt 4 DIGETS OF YOUR social security, My SS# is my privacy and if I dont feel confortable giving it out, then I should not have to. I' had companies that hang up on me becUSE i WOULD NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. IRS advised me not to give it out, especially when talking on a cell phone, They said hackers can get into them and steel information
