Full story: El Paso Times

Texting while driving is dangerous. That's so obvious it isn't even open for argument.

We already have a law against "distracted driving", do we need a seperate law for evey possible distraction?

And what's the difference, a lot of folks disregard the law anyway. I see people talking on their cell whilst driving everyday.

While we're talking about passing a law on TEXTING while driving, how about to include (Oh yeah, its already a law) NO CELLPHONE USE WHILE DRIVING!!! I have experienced near side-swipes, by so many who aren't paying attention while driving, because they are on their cell phones. When driving, the only thing you should be doing, is DRIVING!!!

To the El Paso Times editorial board: Laws that can’t be enforced are as good as the paper that they are written on. We already have such laws that prohibit the use of electronic devices while driving yet, we witness the drivers breaking the laws on a daily basis. Enforce what is currently in the books and the rest will take care of its self. What a concept!

So is eating and driving, putting on your makeup while driving, drinking a coke while driving, looking at the scenery while driving, listening to the radio while driving. This is stupid, enough already....

You have got to be kidding me...why would it not be considereda crime to text and drive. Talking on a cell phone is wrong enough, but looking down while driving is just plain stupid! In my opinion, this should have either been included or put into law before the madatory hands-free device law.
