Illinois Congressman Gutierrez Travels Across Texas on Illegal Immigration Amnesty

There are 28 comments on the www.reuters.com story from Mar 11, 2009, titled Illinois Congressman Gutierrez Travels Across Texas on Illegal Immigration Amnesty. In it, www.reuters.com reports that:

Amidst a backdrop of rising unemployment and increased costs of illegal immigration, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) is spending the next five weeks visiting 16 American cities -- including El Paso, Dallas and Mission, Texas this weekend -- promoting amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and the dismantling of immigration law enforcement programs. Rep. Gutierrez describes the Family Unity Immigration Outreach Tour as an effort to "document the harm caused to citizens across our nation in the absence of comprehensive immigration reform."

What is notably missing in Rep. Gutierrez's tour is any mention of the harm mass amnesty would have on citizens and legal immigrants, or the economic toll illegal immigration has on American workers.

Illegal immigrants are cowards. Rather than fight to change their own country they'd rather exploit a broken system. After all, to make their country better would require "effort" on their part.
And don't think for a minute that these illegals are not scamming the system. I've taken care of countless sick anchor babies who's parents don't speak a word of english but know how to extract every bit of social welfare paid for by the US taxpayer.
And your saying we can't deport 12 million over night? I beg to differ. If we can transport 200,000 men and women to the middle east along with millions of tons of military hardware 8000 miles away, we can kick out people that don't belong in our own backyard.

yea we can send them to war in a time of crisis because they are enlisted in the army its their job. Like you showing up to work on monday. I would like you to tell me how we can kick them out when we dont even know where or who they are? its not possible its not practical and it just isnt the best solution to a problem that has no quick fix.

You are naive if you think the government does not have a good idea of who they are. The ones who over stay a visa are very easily found and removed. The border slitherers are harder, but not impossible.

Attrition through enforcement. Enforce the laws strictly and they won't have jobs, homes, any government services, and at that point they will have no choice but to leave on their own.

If Herbert Hoover could do it, and then in 1954 Eisenhower managed to remove something like 13 million of them, well, we surely can do it today.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

We don't know who are where they are?! How naive you are little child. I work in a hospital. I see them every day. You see them standing on the street corner every day looking for work. They are the ones with no drivers license, not social security number, no english skill. Are you that ignorant? I can leave my house right now and find at least 20 of them within 1-2 hours. It's not that hard at all.

ILLEGALS BUST BUDGET

“California is in a state of emergency,”
in announcing a $42 billion
deficit. They failed to state the obvious
reason: illegal immigrants from
south of the border have taken over
the state, paying little or no taxes
while driving up the costs of welfare
and free health care.

Many legal residents are leaving California because of sky-high taxes.

Very soon folks there will be no place to run. Is this when people start using their head, or are Americans so dumbed down it's already to late for most?

I spent some time this morning, e-mailing my congressmen and senators, requesting an investigation of Luis Gutierrez. I explained why he must be investigated!

For the record, Luis Gutierrez is from Puerto Rico. He relies on the "Mexican vote" within his congressional district for re-election.
