When I lived in the Kenilworth apartments some of my friends attended Curé of Ars even though I went to another school. Some of the girls came over to my jr high, some went to a different one, while most of the boys went off to Rockhurst High School. Despite the different schools, we remained friends. We all got together at the pool during the summer and hung out at the 7-11, or over at the Baskin Robbins in the Ranchmart Center. I think the diversity of the residents was helpful and it didn't matter back then if my neighbor went to a different school. It was kind of nice to know someone at another school not your own, especially when you're at the football games or basketball games, or hanging out at shopping center or the Rockhurst Carnival. It was someone who you could say "hi" to and know they were your pal and neighbor. The sense of community is what we choose to make it: at our schools, our place of worship, our homes and our city. One can claim isolation, but the reality is the community isn't being broken up - it's expanding.

It is rediculous that we are wasting 3 minutes of TV time on this subject. These parents just have money and expect to get what they want all the time. It's called public school which means that you do not get to pick your school, if they want to pick their school then pay for private schooling.

They should get suggestions from the parents, I bet they would come up with something that would work.

Are you too good to get to know more people? In my day Shawnee Mission South was where the richer people went to. You don't want your child hanging out with that crowd? Your son or daughter could marry into a wealthy family. And with today's money issues isn't that where you should be??? I understand that THE KIDS want to stay with their friends. I can also say that when I was in High School the district changed the boundries and my girlfriends little sister had to go to a different Junior High and High School then we did. And we all lived through it so will your kids. This isn't the first time the district has done this. And probably won't be the last.

Ummm, I know lots of children that live in one public school district but attend school in another public school district.
