Point of view: My ancestors were illegal immigrants

There are 4 comments on the ETruth.com story from Mar 26, 2011, titled Point of view: My ancestors were illegal immigrants. In it, ETruth.com reports that:

Mishawaka, Wawasee, Shipshewana, Topeka, Dowagiac, Pokagon ... The very place names in the region where I live bear witness to native peoples who were dispossessed of their land almost two centuries ago by my forebears.

They speak Spanish because they are the descendants of the European, Spanish speaking nation of Spain.

Spain, Mexico, Honduras,,,all have immigration laws that they do not apologize to enforce. Their laws are much stricter U.S. laws.

Your claim that everyone is an immigrant and no one has a right to their land is ridiculous. Do you or your parents have any right to the land? Are you giving back the land you live on? Why don't you try to get your family to give up their land; I don't see that happening.

If you truly believed whites whose families have been here for generations have no real claim to the land they live on and were born on -then why do you support the rights of foreign nationals from all over the world to live here?

It's 2011; it's time to "move on". Every historic injustice is impossible to address; Indian tribes killed and enslaved other Indian tribes- how are you going to address that? On The Museum of the American Indian's website they have an video of their opening of the ceremony of their exhibit on the relationship between blacks and Indians. There were Indians who owned slaves- how do you propose to address that wrong?

Immigrants of the past had a much harder road to hoe. Elise Island had doctors to make sure people didn't come with diseases. There wasn't the arrays of subsidies we have now, no WIC, section 8 housing, school lunch programs, cash assistance....

The fact is poor people use more in social services than they pay in taxes; new poor immigrants hurt poor Americans and recent legal poor immigrants the most. They compete with them for social services and jobs.

You don't think Faisal Shahzad shows Homeland Security doesn't adequately check who is given citizenship?

Do you think Homeland Security was lying about being buried if there's another amnesty? When passport rules changed people were brought out of retirement because of the backlog.

Cesar Chavez wrote about being opposed to immigration because it kept wages down- MAYBE HE IS RACIST TOO.

!http://www.lewisu.edu/student services/multicultural/sisepue de/chavez.htm

He is considered a hero for farm laborers, and opposed both legal and illegal immigration to help keep wages higher and improve work safety rules.

The native Indians as you called them crossed from the Bering Straits, so they were illegal also. However no laws existed on immigration for the native Indians or those who came to America in the 1800-1900s. So it is impossible to be illegal if there are no immigration laws. Although the treatment of the native Americans may have been cruel, I can't change the past. The Indians from Mexico came from the south, hence their darker skin. The Aztecs were a brutal people who enslaved the Mayans. Hence the reason the Mexicans identify with the Aztecs. Their goal is to enslave the Anglos as they take back what they consider theirs. Even tho that land belonged to Spain not Mexico and once given their freedom, many of those people chose freely not to stay in Mexico (New Spain) because of their corrupt government. No one has a problem with legal immigration, much like Ellis Island the immigrants were checked for diseases, criminal records, and ability to support themselves. I resent working all my life to support law breakers. Not only do they come here illegally, but they drive w/o licenses and insurance costing me more. Yes, the language of this country is English. It was when the illegals started coming here and will continue to be. The 2 most divisive factors in countries are religion and language. You mention that this unfair to the Spanish speakers. Are you saying they are the only illegals here or the only ones you care about. That would be racist. I am opposed to any and all illegal immigration. If the people in Tunisia and Egypt can overthrow their corrupt governments, why don't the Hispanics try in their homelands. God knows they protest enough here for rights they are not entitled to as an illegal. They wave their damn flag in our face and demand that we support them. Enough!!! Their problem and place is in their homeland not here in a country they do not respect.

I for one am just sick of politicians pandering illegals due to the hispanic vote and I am sick of illegals expecting us to bend over to accommodate them...enter legally...have a background check...prove you will not be a burden to american taxpayers and welcome...to the pastor who wrote the article...you do what you have to do and I will do the same....and stop pandering for the hispanics to come to your church and put more in the plate you pass every sunday
