Review: Corndance Tavern

I went to Corndance Tavern the first week of January, 2011 and was NOT impressed. There was a large group of us and although the wait staff was friendly and fast, the food was way over priced for the taste. It comes out really pretty. We had appetizers of brushetta and spinach & artichoke dip which were both really good. We did have to ask for more bread since each big bowl of “dip” came with only 4 pieces of bread.
I ordered a caesar side salad with my dinner and the salad had way too much ground pepper on it. I’m not exaggerating when I say there were a couple of times when both my fiancé and I had a burn in our throats from chunks of black pepper. I’m not sure why anyone would put pepper on a caesar salad. If one wanted pepper on a salad, there is pepper at the table.
I ordered the chicken fiorentina (sp?) which was good but not $19 good. The only meat I eat is chicken and I don’t like any meat on the bone so I only eat chicken breasts. Unfortunately, when they brought the chicken out both pieces (came with 2) had a bone attached to the end. I have no idea why that was there but it definitely deducts from the appeal for me.
A few people at the table ordered pizzas. They said there was so much garlic on it that it made it very hard to eat.
Some had the baked mozzarella salads and didn’t care for those either. Way too much onion. One girl commented that the prosciutto that came wrapped around the mozzarella tasted like microwaved chicken and did not eat it. Much of their salads went wasted.
Two people ordered what I believe was called the ham hock (it is the cut of ham between the knee and the underside of the pig). If you get grossed out by big hunks of meat this is not for you. It came out held up by this special contraption that rotates the piece of leg for you to be able to pull the chunks of flesh off on your own. One of the legs was red in the middle. When the gentlemen asked the water if it was cooked properly the waiter said he would take it back to the kitchen and show it to the chef. The waiter then brought it back and informed him that the chef said he was actually “lucky” because a blood clot had exploded in there when he cut into it and it “adds to the flavor of the meat”. He was obviously grossed out and didn’t eat any more of it nor did he take it home. A shame because I’m sure the thing cost at least $25.
At the end of our meal, we paid on one check. The next day upon examination of the receipt, we discovered that we were charged for extra shots, extra appetizers,“samples” that were presented like they were on the house, and people had been charged for more expensive entrees than they had ordered. Absolutely unacceptable.
Will never go back to this restaurant and would suggest that other steer clear of it as well.
Also, not a good place to go if you are vegetarian as everything is bison, seafood or some other kind of meat. Unless you want a peppery or onion filled salad. Pictures on the wall are disgusting as well. Shows hanging fish for sale and butchering meat and things of that nature that are a huge turn off
