WOW!!!!!!!!!! My sister and I are both retired and over 60 years old and we're considering taking a road trip to the Carolinas to check out the surroundings with the possibility of relocating. We both are born and raised in Pennsylvania. Everything we've heard and read about the area has been pleasant and encouraging until now. We only want to live out our lives in peace and safety and enjoy the company of friendly sincere Christian people... Now I don't know what to think. What a disappointment to read the blog and think that there exists such hatred toward others for no reason whatsoever. Again, I say WOW!!!!!!!!!! We sure don't treat people who move to our area from other places with negativity and prejudice and there have been many such people that are now permanent residents in our part of Pa. I'm not a bleeding heart either, I abhor crime and believe in swift and harsh punishment for anyone who violates another's well being in any manner.
You may like it here, but not for the reasons you have stated. I have never met a larger collection of disingenuous people in my life. They will say one thing to your face and mean something else. They hate you because you are smarter, more articulate, and have more cash (in general). I often find comfort when I mix my friends based on background. I do have southern friends, but I do not spend time with just them. I make sure it is a mixed cultural, racial, class, and educational crowd. But, when it was me with a bunch of southerners, I found myself having to hear why they hate us so much. And, most of it was based on jealousy.

My next wife may be a Southern girl, and that's ok with me.

Why is the highest ranking public university involved in academic fraud?

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-01-...

UNC, known for being the best bang for the buck, nationally ranked programs, and major Div I sports has to cheat in order to compete. How does Stanford, Notre Dame, Duke, BU, and other major universities with major sports succeed? They recruit students who can compete on the field rather than athletes who can compete in the classroom.

Wow, I really hope this site isn't for real.
After reading the comments on this page you polite, gracious southerners can rest assured this "yankee" is steering her attention in another direction. I'd rather continue to pay astronomical property taxes, endure another polar vortex, and dodge bullets in the murder capital of the USA than live among the likes of you people. Should you question where I am speaking of...it's Chicago, IL! At least we keep it real here. By the way, I am a very proud supporter of our current Commander in Chief, Barack Obama.

That's like saying all Irish are drunks. Not everyone is like that up here thank you. Either way she never said anything about the North being better. In fact, she actually said she wanted to move South.

Don't go gettin all yankee and worked up on me now. I'm just tellin you like it is down here. This is an internet blog, I'm not going to spell check and worry about my grammar. You obviously are upset at the reality of what the north is. People get so defensive when southern people state the truth about the north. People are ugly up there. People don't dress nice. Nobody says yes mam/sir. Nobody cares about looking nice to go to the grocery store or the mall. Nobody cares what other people think of them up there. It's really like yall only care about yourselves. Down here in the south mam, we actually wave to our neighbors, ask the person who held the door open for us at a gas station "how's your day goin", we make sure to be extra nice to police officers, firemen, teachers, neighbors, friends and family. Down here in the south we aren't stuck up snobs about food and wine and travel and education etc. We are what we are, just simple nice American people. Perhaps yall are so standoffish and unfriendly because a lot of you are of European decent. Down here we are American, hard working, Walmart lovin, race watchin, front porch sittin, country music listenin, southern accent talkin, kind people. Don't pretend like up north is a wonderful place to live. Yea, yall have good schools (if you pay extra for private), but do you even have a sense of community? Go to the mall and grocery store tomorrow and see how many people smile at you first. See how many people allow you to walk from the store to the parking lot (actually come to a stop and wave for you to walk because they aren't frantic crazy yankees). Just try it out when you're feeling like the north is the best, cause it aint.

Just remember who won the war. Yeah, Southerners act polite but anyone ever have the misfortune of meeting and dating a southern belle? Holy god what a degenerate life form that is. And they learned it all from that degenerate southern culture.
Yes, the north won the war. I now invite you to visit a black neighborHOOD without a firearm. Yes, you won the war. Look at the current state of ALL of our major cities, most of which are under black leadership. New Orleans, Detriot, Chicago and now Charlotte. Los Angeles is bankrupt, and our current president is lost without his teleprompter. Russia is changing the borders of Eastern Europe. And all Obama can do is pick out his basketball bracket. Yes, you won the war, and our nation is becoming an armpit. Thanks for nothing.

We moved here ten years ago too. I'm not liking it so much. It's just too hot for me. And, I miss the LI beach breeze. Hell, I'll take the Jersey Shore at this point.

Paradise. I have been looking at Indian Trail to move my family to. Schools and community are my major concerns. I want my daughters to have a real sense of community and for their education to be as good as possible.

Despite a lot of what has been written in this thread over the years, I believe NC will be an amazing, positive change for my family. Ill be bringing my business with me, so all should be well.

Thanks to all of the positive people in this thread who provided pertinent information about moving to the area.
