Why is so much time, money and effort being wasted on saving the Heelspliter Mussel? It's little more than a slug. What does it contribute to society? Does it pay any taxes? Are they decent fish bait? No, it just lays there and costs us money(another form of Wellfare recipient). Quick, somebody kill the last one and lets get on with life. I would but I'm going to kill the Spotted Owl so we can drill for oil.

Don't forget the caribou. We don't even have to kill them. They would just have to take a slight deter to get to the same place. Kind of like asking the chicken to go to the cross walk.

Would anybody go see the Carolina Heelsplitter Mussel in a Zoo? Would it be a Major attraction? Should there be a sign put up on the site in question saying "See the Carolina Heelsplitter Mussel in it's natural habitat only $5.00 per person"? Would it generate enough to pay for the sign? If they can pay their own way, then they can stay! Otherwise start grading and paving.
