North Memorial Minnetonka Clinic - Dr. David Schneider Terrible Experience

I'm starting this forum to share my horror story with Dr. David Schneider M.D @ North Memorial Minnetonka Clinic.
I suffer from Panic Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder and depression. I have been going to the same clinic since 1980 even before it was owned by North Memorial.
2 Days ago, I ran out of my Anti-Anxiety Medication. I tried calling over 15 different Psychiatrists in the Minneapolis area and all of them are booked up until mid-march or April.
Being out of my medication and having it be the weekend, my only other choice to AVOID the terrible withdrawal from being off a benzo anti-anxiety medication was to go to the Hospital.
I went last night to Methodist Hospital. In the emergency room they determined that I was going through withdrawal from not having my medication, but they had a hospital policy of not prescribing anti-anxiety medication.
They recommended I contact my Primary Caregiver/practice immediately last night to see if they could help me.
I contacted North Memorial Minnetonka Clinic and spoke to the answering service, which stated that my Doctor- Dr. David Schneider was the 'On Call' Doctor for the night and that he could help me.
I was transferred to David Schneider at North Memorial Clinic and he told me on the phone "Don't call me and BOTHER me on the weekend. If you want to be seen make an appointment" and he hung up the phone on me.
"What?" I was thinking, what in the world was I supposed to do? My doctor just hung up the phone on me. I was out of medication. So I immediately called my insurance company who said to go to the North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis because they have all my medical records and could help me.
I went to North Memorial Hospital hoping to have some relief from the Jitters, Shakes, Nausea, stomach pains and terrible withdrawal symptoms I was having.
In the hospital room, I must have had a seizure, because I woke up in the hospital bed completely sweaty and covered in my own urine, with spit drooling out of my mouth.
No one had helped me. I paged the nurse and she noticed what happened and they put me on an IV and determined I had a seizure and gave me (1) ONE single pill of anti-anxiety medication.
An hour later I was released and given instructions to contact my primary doctor.
Well-- I contacted my primary doctor, David Schneider at North Memorial earlier and he hung up the phone on me even though it was HIS job to be the on-call doctor for the evening.
Every Psychiatrist I have contacted is fully booked until March/April.
So what the hell am I supposed to do? All I need is my prescription. The same prescription I have been taking for over 8 Years for major panic disorder and GAD.
But I am Stuck. No Psychiatrists are available. My Doctor doesn't care. The Hospitals all refer me back to my doctor.
I don't know what to do and I am really scared.
According to http://NorthMemorial.com one of the 'Promises' of NM is:
"Access to staff and providers to answer your questions and exceed your expectations."
and their 'VISION' is:
"North Memorial Clinic provides optimal outcomes and exceptional experiences, every patient, every time."
So What do I do? How can a doctor treat a patient this way? How can an organization who's vision is to care for and provide exceptional experiences for their patients treat someone like this?
I feel so helpless because no one will help me, and I can't do this fight alone. I need a Doctor who cares about me and can help me in my situation

Unfortunately, the experience that you went through is all too common in today's healthcare system.
Your primary care physician should treat you with respect and kindness and be sensitive to your illness.
The first thing you should do is file an official complaint with the North Memorial Healthcare system. This will start the process (sometimes it is a very long one) and at least get the ball rolling.
Physicians that treat their patients like this are held accountable for their actions and in my opinion, because of your seizure at the hospital (which was preventable), your doctor should be disciplined and/or reviewed by the board for his inability to help you.
Remember: That is HIS job. To help his patients and he has failed you and is just another example of the poor quality of care that North Memorial has gotten a bad rap for.
Best of Luck to you and I'm sorry this happened to you! It will get better.

Patient I'm sorry to hear about your story. It never feels good when the people you entrust to help you, fail you.
Would you be willing to do an interview? We can get this story some bigger press coverage for you, as we are currently working on a segment that exposes the healthcare system in the US. Let me know.-Matthew
