Come on St. Paulers, lets fight to keep businesses like this out of our city. If his business is so wonderful, why doesn't he open one next to his township in Lakeville or by his ranch or better yet near his fiance's daughters boarding school. He's already lying to us like the cop said, "He's half telling the truth" which means he's really lying to us. Business like this put crooks, burglars, thieves in business. That's why they never stop stealing.

gree. I also wonder how much those social parasites paid the Pioneer Press for this fliff piece? What ever happened to journalistic ethics?
Exactly. Pioneer press is a weak paper and whoever wrote this article probably got the ATV or one of stolen diamond necklace. He/she made the business sounds so rosy but doesn't cover the other half. The writer seems to be stuck in Smith's hole.

Look at the locations, and sure the CEO may even be a nice guy who fails to realize we see him as just another dude who found a way to make a buck, ethics be damned. Having been in the military I have seen first hand how opposite Robin Hood these establishments are. In rare cases folks pawn off junk they no longer want, and the Pawn Shop sells it someone who finds the junk charming. In most cases folks are desperate, or not of right mind (ie drugs/alcohol) and 'pawn" something off they shou;dn't be, in some cases thinking they'll get to buy it back on payday at a minor mark up. Yeah, right. Sure, lots of these folks deserve the grief they are getting. But without these pawn shops they sell it to a friend or relative, or look harder for other options. No, I have no problem if this CEO ethically and morally can sleep at night as that is his business. However, to write this "look at this great story" acticle on this matter is in poor taste and misguided. I hope the Pioneer Press got paid a tidy sum to ADVERTISE like this and disguise it as a "feel good" piece. SHAME ON you, you are the ones who better lose sleep at night on ethical and moral grounds. I wonder how long this post stays up???
You love and trust him so much, why don't you ask him to build one OSSEO. you must be one of his few friends or maybe you're in the same industry as him. Birds of a feather do flock together. SHAME ON US, Man SHAME ON YOU for putting your two cents in a neighborhood that's none of your business.

I thought most pawnshops were just a front for drugs. No?
Not all just a few but it's a front for burglars and thieves.

Businesses like this is why there are so many illegal aliens. I'm not against illegal aliens nor approved of them but Smith's business allows them to cash in their checks without question. His only concern is if the account has enough money to cover the check so he's not screwed. He makes it easy for illegal aliens to illegaly. He's hiking up health care and other expenses for all of us.

Of course pawn shops are booming. This is happening because people are hurting more now than usual. And why is that? Its because capitalism or the "free" market system is gripped in its latest massive failure. Arise ye wretched of the earth! Arise ye prisoners of starvation! Yank out your gold teeth and head for your local, friendly pawn shop!
Please look up the word ignorant in Websters and they do something to learn about macro/micro economic policy, preferably not Obama's because he is closeless.

On the grand scale of what this business does, cashing someone's PAYcheck for work is the least of my worries. I would rather them cash a paycheck for a hard week's work than pawn off my valuables for $20.

I would never sell gold to a pawnshop. Why? They "need to turn a profit", they need to sell something for more than they bought it for, and quickly. Thats not how the gold market works - Gold is worth what it is worth.

I've been shopping around for gold and the prices have run the gamut - one jeweler offered me gold at over $190 a gram! Outrageous! Just today I got an offer of $90/gram. The guy had the audacity to say he "doesn't sell by weight", as if didn't know there are only 2 factors when buying gold: gold content and weight.

$45-50/gram is fair (for 14k). What do they offer at pawn shops?

He said he doesn't do guns, but on his website it says that have guns at at least a few of the stores. Pawnshops are kind of for lazy dummies, you could get more on Ebay or Craigslist for your item than a pawnshop will give you.
Then you pay for shipping and you don't know what you have. Why not pay $10.00 more for something you can touch, feel and you know for sure it works???!!!!
