Prosecutors charged Swanson with four offenses in an October 2009 incident — auto theft, giving a peace officer a false name, underage drinking and driving, and collision with an unattended vehicle. He pleaded guilty to auto theft, a felony, in July, and the other charges were dismissed, according to court records.
St. Louis Park police had been called to the Swanson home 10 times since 2005 — half of them this year, according to police records.
The other calls to the Swanson home included reports of an assault, a theft, a weapons violation and threats, the records show. Jamie Zwilling, a city spokesman, said he couldn't provide more information about the reports because they involve a juvenile.
And now this punk has senselessly shot and killed two people, one a mother of 11. Let’s hear it for Minnesota’s lenient juvenile justice system.
You liberal prix don't know how to keep your scum on a leash up there!!! This punk will die in prison if convicted here in Iowa!!! He would be out after 10 years in the Stillwater Hilton had he pulled this stunt 40 miles further north.....

We should not only be saddened and angered by this crime, but we should also be asking what are the root causes of the crime and what can be done to prevent similar crimes in the future.
One thing I think must be done is gun control, as I've discussed in my earlier e-mails. I'll let my earlier e-mails stand on that issue.
But, I also worry about the influence of the all-pervasive violence that our kids see, hear and read-about daily, on TV, the radio, the internet and elsewhere. Most people realize that's just entertainment, although, personally, I don't find it entertaining in the least. But there are a few (especially among the young and impressionable) who have become de-sensitized to all the violence and don't seem to understand the evil and devastation caused by violence.
I wonder whether the kid who perpetrated this crime is another such kid.
Or maybe he has parents (or parent, singular) who have no idea how to raise a child. Plenty of parents (or parent) out there who have no business being a parent. I don't know what the situation is at this kid's home, but from my experience with emotional and behavior disturbed children, it USUALLY (not always) points to an unstable home, with parents (or most likely parent, singular) who were not ready emotionally or financially to reproduce, but did so, anyway. Does anyone know what this kid's family is like?

You'll have to excuse me if I can't muster up enough sympathy for the murderer's family. Most of my sympathy is for the family's of the two victims who were needlessly gunned down by this waste of a human being. Mental illness or not, the world would have been a better place had he never been in it. My hope is that a little jailhouse justice wipes that smarta$$ smile right off his face.

Based on some of these comments, I'm guessing we're not dealing with much beyond a high school diploma but...Has anyone heard of severe mental illness? Parenting a child with mental illness is light years from parenting your average child. Unless you've parented a mentally ill child (not just socially awkward of emotionally challenged), please don't judge this kid's family. Pray for the families of the victims as well as this kid's family.

None of the familes involved will be helped, comforted or vindicated by all of the self-serving rage left her as commments. Such tragedy is universally SAD. That you all turn it into an occasion to judge without the benefit of ANY first hand knowledge or experience of those involved, without one ounce of empathy for any of them, truly shows YOUR moral depravity. Don't kid yourselves-words are cheap. All of the families involved will be and have been actually LIVING through their ordeals. The ability to leave a comment doesn't mean you know SHIT!

Thanks for that, Rambo. Maybe you can get a job in Hollywood, where you can continue to propagate the myth that the good guy with a gun will win the day, in one shoot-'em-up, blast-'em-up up action movie/TV show after another -- you know, the type that most uninformed Americans scarf down like so much junk food on a daily basis.
I can tell you at least one thing with certainty. The free-for-all you advocate with regard to guns will ensure that the increasing gun carnage on America's streets will continue unabated for years and decades to come. Care to bet on that, Rambo? Didn't think so.
Yeah, get rid of all the guns, that will fix everything. Just ask Australia when they confiscated the peoples firearms. Crime went through the roof. Think about you dumbass dipshit!!!! Most of the scumbags using the guns are people who did NOT get them the legal way and should NOT have them in the first place. So making it illegal to own a firearm will not stop them from getting one. Christ, is it that difficult for the liberals to understand common sense?

I'm talking about banning hand-guns, automatics and semi-automatics, the arms of choice for criminals. I agree that, if they were banned today, criminals would not relinquish their guns. But, they would need ammo to fire the guns (which would be restricted, too), so guns would be less and less usable. Plus, over time (and, granted, it would probably take several years), more and more guns would be confiscated, etc. making the streets more and more safe.
If you remember anything, remember this: Almost all police authorities throughout America want hand-guns, automatics and semi-automatics banned, because they know that the streets would be made much safer.
You dick head, do you honestly think that the criminals wouldnt find a way to get that ammo that is restricted? Dumbass, they are getting guns now when its illegal for them to even own one!!!!! You are truly stupid. You keep forgetting that the criminal is just that a CRIMINAL, he doesnt give a shit about laws or in your own words "restrictions"

Yesterday my comments were deleted by the PP editor. Very interesting. I guessed that this young man came from a fatherless home where the female custodial parent wanted to be divorced. I guessed that visitation was denied to the father and the female custodial parent's need to "control" caused the female custodial parent to engage in what is known as parental alienation syndrome (a sick game where the custodial parent uses kids as pawns to be "winners" of their own sick games.

I stated if on the jury, I could vote to find innocence by reasobn of insanity. We will see if this post makes it past
PP editors now that the readership of the posts have died down.

You stupid Canadians just don't get it...criminals ain't gonna turn in their guns! They are CRIMINALS. They do not respect laws, hence being a criminal. My God, what the hell is wrong with liberals??? Seriously. Mind your own liberal business in Canada. Just be happy we come go up there and spend a few bucks to go fishing once in a while.

Two things I enjoy reading day after day in the PP comments section. First, the large number of "Christians" who can't wait to "fry" someone for the crime they committed. Second, the equally large number of "gun advocates" that refuse to acknowledge the disproportionate number of gun deaths when comparing this country to any other country in the world. At least we can lead the world in something!
One thing i enjoy is reading others asinine comments. I wasn't aware that people were identifying themselves as christians saying they wanted him to "fry". As for the "gun advocate" comment, I also like to hear people say they want a ban on guns it's humorous. Like that would solve all of our "gun" related crimes.
