I recently resettled in the Marshall area. For background noise at home and work, I listen to a few scanners, monitoring law enforcement and emergency services providers. It has helped place my "finger on the pulse" of activities in the area. And something alarming has become apparent.
Marshall Police and Lyon County Sheriff's deputies appear to be targeting out of state licence plates. It isn't noon yet, and I've tallied eight out of state vehicles stopped and extensive background checks ran on not only the driver, but the passengers as well. And today is no different from yesterday or any day the past six months. Any out of state vehicle in the Marshall area can expect to be stopped, your privacy invaded, your right to travel impeded, simply for the crime of having out of state license plates.
I'd think the local Chamber of Commerce would look into this activity. I'm not talking about profiling potential drug runners, unless middle aged and older families in minivans are the new high suspect group of contraband runners in the upper mid west. Surprises me the law isn't looking into the passenger identities of the minivans in the area with Minnesota tags on them.
Caveat Viator: Let the traveler beware
