Lake County School Board: Youngest kids shouldn't walk to school

Many Lake County children living less than two miles from school will still probably be able to catch the bus this fall.

This makes more sense to me. I wouldn't be opposed to paying for busing for my children who live just under the 2 mile range.

I don't care about ages. It's all or nothing. We all pay taxes and picking and choosing will land lake county in court. Mark my words!!!!

Would someone please show me any factual evidence -- real facts, not your personal opinion -- that busing kids all over the place accomplishes anything of value? That busing isn't just another politically-motivated smoke-screen to convince parents their children will be better students if they spend hours on the road twice a day in order to attend school miles away from home. That having thousands of fuel-guzzling, air-polluting, traffic-slowing vehicles costing millions of $$$ in staff and maintenance, improves test scores and increases graduation rates. Is busing really worth the costs? Are schools and students any better today, or are they worse than ever? Isn't it time parent start asking school boards to find a better way? Facts please, not opinions.
