as a lifelong die hard VIKES fan; if i have to choose between a 40 yr old H.O.F. qb, who has a SB, seen and done almost everything and still has a truck load of talent or a would be qb guru with two division titles and an ego the size of mount RUSHMORE...then break out the rubbing linament and fill the tub with icy water....GO VIKES!!!

Coaches and great QBs get into it. Ask Simms, Montana, Starr, et al. Let's move on and ask the question that Merrill Hoge asked "What is with that lousy offensive line?" McKinnie needs a lap dance; Hutch needs to refund his paycheck; Sully needs a clue; Loadholt is a load; and, Herrera.... well, you get the idea.

Ya know what I think??

I think that the MEDIA NEEDS TO STOP PUTTING OUT 3 TO 5 ARTICLES PER DAY ON THE ISSUE!

WITH EACH ARTICLE BLOWING IT UP MORE AND MORE EACH TIME!!

BECAUSE I CAN ALMOST GUARENTEE YOU BY NOW, THAT THE MEDIA HAS MADE THIS STORY MUCH WORSE THAN IT REALLY IS.

THE MEDIA TRULY MAKES ME SICK SOMETIMES!

AND TOM POWERS, YOU ARE NO EXCEPTION.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO WRITE FOR A MINNESOTA TEAM, MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY STAYING ON OUR SIDE, INSTEAD OF ADDING TO THE DRAMA.

GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!

Leave it to the media to make a moutain out of a mole hill. Funny how if it was another team, it wouldn't be much to report. Even the Viking's owner doesn't want to be bothered with it.

Why doesn't the media report on the Viking's lack of an offensive line all of a sudden? I wish the Vikings would have traded McKinnie years ago. He has no legs! Oh wait, no leg muscles! Remember, Loadholt is a rookie so give him some credit. Peppers switch to McKinnie's side because he wasn't having much success on the right side.

Brad Childress is no cheer leader and does not generate energy. Brett Farve obviously does both. If Brad gets Brett down and Brett no longer feels this excitement and energy and joy then the Vikings are done. Brad needs to bite his bullet, swallow it, and hope it was not lead or his energy killing ego will kill him as a coach. He needs to play on the energy given to him in Brett Farve and become Brett's cheer leader. If he does that then the Vikings will win the Super Bowl. Right now it seems that Brad only has faith in himself and not in his wonderfully talented team. Where is his faith without his ego.

No one saw this coming. Really?

When this was about Farve having his chance to stick it to Ted Thompson, he was on his behavior. That's done. It's now December and the focus is on the Vikings and that doesn't work for Brett Favre. You see, for Brett Favre, it always needs to be about Brett Favre. It's been that way for ten years. Turns out he hit a homerun when he came across a desparate coach who thinks he's smarter than everyone else.

Classic Brad Childress move. The Professor can change Brett Favre. He can't. And he won't. In fairness to Childress, he did a terrific job maximizing Favre this year by limiting Favre's ability to freelance (3 INTs the first 11 games, 4 INTs in the last 3). On the issue of checking out of run plays in favor or pass plays, Childress is absolutely correct. He's trying to protect Favre (and his team) from Favre.

But what Childress should have understood while he was sitting in his SUV waiting for Favre at the airport is that there's no changing the "gunslinger". It's not 20/20 hindsight when it's obvious in August.

At least the desperation move got him his contract extension. I wonder how ownership will feel about that come January...

I guess we will see come January. I've seen teams that looked great in December and flopped during the Post Season. I've seen teams that didn't look good during December and came on during the Post Season. All the talk doesn't really matter at this point.

Opinions are just that. Opinions. I can think Tampa Bay is going to win the Super Bowl all I want next season and express it all over the internet and it won't make a flip bit of difference.

The one thing I do know is this. If the Vikings lose out in the playoffs it will be Favre's fault, no matter what. He can complete every pass in the game and not throw an interception and somehow he will get the blame.

If the Vikings win the Superbowl, Favre will have just been a game manager and road the coatails of the Vikings. Same above, wont matter what he does.

The people who hate will will continue hating him and find fault in the way he takes a leak. Mark my words though. They will miss him when he's gone cause they will have to find someone else to bash. And, they will. Cause those kind of people Hate, just for Hate's sake.

Just my opinion. Doesn't really matter though.

The Vikings brought in Favre to start. He's got 20 years experience, he's being paid 12 million/year...yet Childress thinks he should micro manage Favre and the play calling. Childress should get out of the way and start coaching the whole team.

There isn't a manager anywhere, in any business, that succeeds by micro managing. Childress doesn't know how to be a head coach. There were breakdowns everywhere last Sunday, yet Childress only focuses on micro managing Favre. Trust your veteran players and they will lead the way...

Hey Powers..........Can't ya find anything else to write about? There's only 2 games left, give your negativity a rest and drop it!!!! Get behind the team and write something positive instead of dragging this out and trying to turn a mole hill into a mountain of controversy. It's always easier to go done the negative road though isn't it Tommy........ it requires little to none in the area of actually thinking like the positive road does.

The Yankees had Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson, and Jackson belted home runs and collected World Series rings, two HUGE egos and yet they got it done... Childress is the coach, Favre is a player on a TEAM, drop the egos and come together for the team. Childress should stop with the micro manage crap and think about drafting some more Hutchinsons, for this overrated offensive line. How about a future q.b. as well...

What really changes about this team? Year after year we have to endear mediocre owners, front offices, coaches and scavanged QBs and quick fixes. No way to run a business or a football team either. When was the last time this team had a true franchise QB? I love the Vikes and patience may be a virtue, but building a team on a 40yr old QB is not prudent.

I certainly hope you all understand that this is only still in the headlines because there has to be *something* written about a microscopic discussion between a coach and a player from every sports reporter on the planet, ESPN "Anal ysts", NFL Players from other teams, and every the Daily Shopper Gazette since there is nothing real to report in all actuality right? Chalk it up to a poor game-plan, poor play calling, and lack-luster effort from the players. After all they do get beat on for 4 months straight. You are going to have games like this. The Vikings have had only two so far out of the entire season and thats still plenty good in my book. You are right, a first round by might slip away if they slip anymore. But they have had the best season they've had in a long time and have all the tools to go the distance and no one can deny that.(Well, maybe the play calling...)

This is the most reasoned article I have read. Thank you. Favre must be permitted to audible - and take advantage of what he sees in the defensive formations and match ups. It has taken the Vikings far this season. And the coach needs to lay out the overall game plan AND ensure that his key players are available for the play offs - including the iron man.

A little emotion is good - the Vikings haven't shown much fire of late and this has manifested itself in their play.
