Another GOP insider discovers today's Republican Party sucks

By Jed Lewison

Republican fundraiser Georgette Mosbacher is furious with her own party:

Best not to ask GOP fundraising legend Georgette Mosbacher about the state of her beloved party unless you want an earful. The co-chair of the RNC’s Finance Committee (and CEO of Borghese cosmetics), Mosbacher is “mad as hell” about the myriad ways the “brand has been tarnished”: the sorry state of the presidential primary process, the ongoing alienation of Latino voters, the “outrageous” Senate candidates that the party ran this cycle, the epic failure of the fiscal-cliff negotiations, and, most recently, the House’s dithering over disaster aid for the victims of superstorm Sandy.

Tarnished brand? Alienated Latino voters?

Terrible Senate candidates? Crazy House caucus? Sounds about right. It's almost enough to make you feel sorry for Georgette Mosbacher for being forced to be part of such a godawful party ... except for one little thing. Well, actually a few little things. Things like: In July 2011, Mosbacher donated $25,800 to the National Republican Congressional Committee.

In October 2011, Mosbacher donated $2,500 to Mitt Romney's primary campaign, the maximum allowable donation.

In March 2012, Mosbacher donated $30,800 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
In April 2012, Mosbacher donated $50,000 to Mitt Romney's Victory Fund.

And let's not forget that in May of 1999, she donated $1,000 to George W. Bush's presidential campaign, the maximum allowable contribution. So more than a decade ago, she literally helped the mother of all Republican brand tarnishers get his campaign off the ground. And she spent the last two years funding their march to craziness. And now she's complaining because she couldn't see what was sitting right before her eyes? Ha! The only thing that's more absurd than that is her belief that more of her money is the solution to the problem she helped create:

“There’s one thing they understand,” she says with the confidence of a woman who has played at the highest level of the game for many years.“They understand money. Politics is about money. Make no mistake. They’re going to have to listen.”
And for them to listen, she's going to have to donate more money. In other words, the cycle will repeat itself all over again.
