I bet we agree on one point. Everyone should get an annual review, or more frequently if the situation warrants it.

If you can justify to your employer that you are worth more money to her/him than you were the prior year, you should stand up and make a case for earning more money.

However, if you are worth less money than you were the prior year, then you also ought to be ready to accept less in wages than last year.
