And in all that travel, did you ever go to the local food shelf and demand a cheese burger and a coke? Maybe some pot roast?
if you want to see what some folks can get at a food shelf. go to one that has a Fare For All store. there is NO soda pop for sale there. just good wholesome foods.
.
some of the food shelve that have a FFA once a week to once every two weeks use the FFAs not only to help the communities that do not qualify for food from the regular food shelf program. but it also gets rid of stuff they can not give out in the food shelf program.
these stores are open to all. it does not matter what income bracket the person falls into. if they can get to it. they can save up to 40% compared to regular stores like Cub, Rainbow/Roundy's, Walmart, etc....
.
the link below is to where Fare For All can be found throughout the metro here.
http://www.emergencyfoodshelf.org/OurFamilyOf...
.
their main warehouse is in New Hope. and they are open every other monday. and they are willing to answer questions. as well as for the disabled, give a helping hand getting the packages out of the freezers they use for the store. http://www.emergencyfoodshelf.org/ourfamilyof... Open to everyone; No income restrictions
Purchase more than $12 and take advantage of free items
Sorry, no personal checks

Like I said, the topic was ethnic foods for the food shelf. Try to keep up.

Maybe the government should step in an mandate that the charities make these specific foods available to anyone who wants them. I mean, it's really not fair...

In the woods a hunter may feed the deer, bear, pigs, etc every day, caring for the biological needs of the mammals.

The hunter plants Food Crops that the mammals enjoy.

The hunter places Free Food like corn, pumpkins, beans, honey, and oats in piles. The hunter makes sure that water is readily available, and that shelter is provided for the mammals comfort.

If the mammals desire "more", the hunter will provide more (for a while). The hunter needs as many mammals as possible so that the hunters desires are met. Sometimes the mammals do not even know that they needed more, or that they were victims because other mammals have creature comforts that the Free Food mammals do not have.

The hunter is on top of this and he steals only the best from his neighbors to feed his mammals.

The Mammals gather together in the location of the Free Food, as close to the Free Stuff as possible. The mammals KNOW where the Free Stuff is and they fight to be the 1st at the Feed Piles. If they cannot get what they demand, the mammals will kill each other off to stay 1st at the Feed Trough.

Eventually the hunter has the Mammals trained. Now the Hunter has a readily available, readily willing, herd of mammals to use as the hunter chooses.

The hunter will kill some of the mammals, but not all.

The hunter OWNS these mammals and they will supply his needs. The mammals sacrifice their nature, and sell their souls for the Free Food that the hunter offers.

The hunter OWNS the mammals. He can reduce the Free Food Choices. He can Move the Feed Pile. He can change the living conditions. He can reduce the amount of free food, water, and stop planting crops.

The mammals will accept multiple abuses by the hunter, and defend the hunters good name against any that threaten the hunter. The mammals have become empty vessels of what God intended them to be.

And, shame on the Salvation Army for their pandering to these ingrates! They ALL get food stamps, and can find their "ethnic" food at the grocery store!
They don't like it...fine. Buy your own damned food.

That just shows you they are getting accustomed to the area. When they first come to this country, they can't read English very well (if at all). When they hit a supermarket they are overwhelmed as well as confused. So, what do they do? They go for the things they recognize, which are fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. Only after they have been here a while do they get on a corrupted Americanized diet.

dont you mean the 'gatherer' as in for the plant based foods?
.
back then harvesting and or even farming was considered to be "women's" work. and hunting was "men's" work. since to the men, it did not take skill to gather plants. but it took skill to hunt.
.
in a way. those ancient days are still part of our lives. since it was up to the women to determine when certain plants were ready to be 'in season' for harvesting.

In prehistory, women gathered or foraged for food. This kept them close to home, performing a daily, intensive and social activity. A good memory, a keen eye and a lot of patience when choosing help make a good gatherer.
Men hunted for meat. This was an intermittent, asocial activity that earned them prestige only through the biggest catches. Short bursts of energy were followed by long periods of sitting around waiting for women to bring in the harvest.
