The Gophers are playing "not to lose" (an ancient saying but true). Tubby has his young (and older) players on pins and needles and fear abounds in their minds versus a go get them attitude with a clear sense of nothing to lose (like PSU, MSU and Mich have shown). Once a team blinks the other team pounces. Tubby has not instilled that in these guys and they play with doubt and fear.

Unfortunately, Maturi is still in awe of Tubby (and still thanking his lucky stars that Tubby fell into his lap on the rebound from Kentucky). Scan hope of him firing Tubby anytime soon. Only hope is that Tubby leaves on his own.

What I don't get on how stubborn these high profile coaches are wether it's college or professional and their decision making. Why? Because coach Smith knew he had problems with many tranfers and losing his point guard Nolan. Why did he continue to have the same system with different players that were not ready to do what he wanted? Meaning every coach has a system, but when you don't have the players that fit the system designed for your team when it has drastically changed is a problem! Coach Smith is very stubborn! He lost players that didn't like getting platooned like a revolving door on the court and it has cost him BIG TIME! Maybe Smith doesn't know how to adapt during a course of a season and just goes with his SYSTEM? The BIG STORY LINE HERE IS: Smith doesn't have the players to execute the system and play his style of ball. People and followers of Smith can defend him all day long and make excuses for him, but he has failed as a coach, because he still had lots of talent and that is the BOTTOM LINE!

With probably one of the top three front courts in the Big 10, can't get the ball inside, even with a 6 to 8 inch heigth advantage!!
Holy cow, I must be missing this talented front court all year. Only Mbakwe is a legitimate player up front. Iverson can't score (we don't even dump the ball in to him any more) and III wanders around at the arc the whole game -- 2 rebounds against Michigan. Michigan was guarding him with a 6'4" guy because he'd never go inside. Our front line wouldn't rate in the top half of the league. Hope the incoming freshman (big & small) can play becasue there should be open competition for all spots except Trevor's.

When Devoe Joseph walked out on the team we needed Nolen to stay healthy. When he went down we were toast. If Joseph left because he was a pot head will Tubby be fired? No. Should he be fired? No.

This is the Mason thing all over again except in spades. If we fire Tubby Smith we will not get anyone worth spit to take his place. We have committed ourselves to hiring someone who has no other choices in life. Not even Joel Maturi is dumb enough not to be able to figure this one out.

Losing two points guards for the season was a killer. And I don't see Tubby bringing in a true point guard at this time except for a junior college player. Hollis is not a point guard and should not be forced into that role.

Take K.Taylor off Wisconsin and see how many games they lose. You need a PG to finish games out. The Gophers are in these games but TO and poor decisions ruin the outcome. If people think another coach better than Tubby is going to come to the University of Minnesota. They are mistaken. Look at the facilities there. TCF was a start, not the finishing touches. The budget is near the bottom and you wonder why the programs don't excel. The President, Board of Regents and the Alumni need to do some serious work.Who is fundraising there? This school is a product of 40 years of decay. The education has suffered as well. They are in the bottom third there as well in recent publications. I hope the new President is better than the last 5 who ignored the decay.

Well now the Minnesota Fans have had 4 years of what UK Fans had for 10 year. Tubby was handed a team at UK that had played in the last 2 National Championship Games, and he was credited for a National Championship, actually the returning players helped coach that team to the NC. Tubby has only recruited 1 player that he has taken to a final 4 and that is his son Saul.
Maybe Minnesota fans would be much better off if Tubby took the NC St., or the Ga Tech job and got out of Minnesota. I hear Gillispie is still looking for a job.
A coach that took UK from National Champs to medicore will never rebuild a program.
Now you know why UK Fans called him TLT (ten loss Tubby)
