PPP: Al Franken In Comfortable Position For Re-Election

Source: TPM

TOM KLUDT 3:08 PM EST, TUESDAY JANUARY 22, 2013

Boasting an approval rating above 50 percent, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is in a strong position to secure re-election next year, according to a survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released Tuesday.

Fifty-two percent of Minnesota voters approve of the job their junior senator is doing, compared with 41 percent who disapprove. The poll also showed Franken topping all four would-be Republican challengers in hypothetical matchups, including former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

In a rematch of the 2008 contest, 50 percent of voters gave the edge to Franken while 44 percent said they prefer Coleman, who has already said that he will not run in 2014. Franken claimed an even wider margin over Bachmann in the poll, topping the tea party favorite 54 percent to 40 percent.
