Teacher Union Thugs in Chicago Riot
Those commies

CPS has budgeted to spend up to $25 million to provide temporary shelter for students, meals and organized activities for students between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for as long as the strike drags on. The 144 schools are largely staffed by principals, central office employees and administrators, but appeared sparsely attended on the first day of the strike, making it unclear how many of the district’s 350,000 displaced students spent the warm late-summer day.

Community parks were filled with children in the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side, as groups of boys played catch with a football and others shot hoops on the basketball court. While some students accompanied their parents to work, others found ways to bide their time at home under the watch of grandparents or extended family.

Anthony Kubik, 11, a student at Clissord Elementary School, spent the Monday watching movies with his grandmother so his parents could go to work. Kubik’s mother, Jill, said the family is wary of sending him to park district programs or the contingency schools because they’re only open a few hours. The contingency schools are open for four hours while designated Chicago Park District locations are set up for CPS children for seven hours.

“We’re just winging it at this point,” said Jill Kubik, a Beverly resident.“He will probably be tagging along with my husband to work.”

2. Teachers are there early, stay late, and grade papers ALL THE TIME.
3. So, a college education is NEEDED !! Who pays for it, how many get out in 4 years, and how many start teaching as regular teachers IMMEDIATELY(before certification testing)??? Not as subs ??? As for the pensions, BS !!
4. You said it was fully paid before, now you add a co-pay and still forget employee contributions. Proven LIE, right THERE !!!
5. The salary you spoke of is BS and you're a rude, lying, MORON, again.. Ps- Add a few commas and you sound LESS.... like a moron.
Slew, the fake Seattle resident, is telling someone that he is a fake expert regarding the working conditions and contract negotiations in Chicago.

Slew was a fake expert regarding the American Crystal Sugar negotiations too. How's that one working out for your friends in NoDak? Did they get that big union contract yet?

I 100% agree with you, however just to correct you they were offered a 16% pay increase over 4 years and said no they want a 30% pay raise over 2 years! Talk about greedy
BS !!! Pay is also an issue. However, the union said the two sides are close to a pay agreement after school officials offered to increase salaries 16% over four years on average for "most teachers". Gee, how is it THIS quote doesn't say ALL teachers or ANYTHING about your 30%??? Oh, I's SO SORRY---LMAOROTFu~!I found your BLOG (LMAOROTFu)source for the 30%?? LMAOROTFU~!

Awww, poor Sludge is avoiding telling everyone what a fake expert he is in labor negotiations. Especially the ACS contract dispute in Fargo.

Come on Sludge. Tell us what a good contract your buddies got up there. Tell us how they brought that evil company to its knees and shut it down.

While negotiations in the nation's third-largest school district are focusing on a number of issues, including job security and teacher evaluations, the complicated issue of teacher pay will always be a point of discussion across the country, said Chris Swanson, a vice president at Education Week.

In other words the teachers don't want to be evalutated on the job like the REST OF US....those commies

85% of Chicago Public School 3rd graders can not read to their grade level. The teachers have failed.

Yet, even with being complete failures at their jobs, the teachers want a 30% raise over their average base salary (not including benefits) of $76,000.

Public sector unions should all be banned now. In the real world, most of those teachers would have been fired long ago.

So glad to see our children being pawns in the union money game again. They obviously couldn't care less about our kids.

They settled the pay issue from what I heard. Now its about teacher evaluations that might actually hold them accountable and the expansion of non union charter schools that will offer many kids an alternative to the failed public curriculum. We keep lowering our standards, our kids get dumber, and the unions get bigger.

Fire them all and replace them. There are millions of unemployed teachers that will move to Chicago.

I read somewhere where the union officials felt they might lose up to 30% of their work force if evaluations/accountability testing were put in place.
30%?? No wonder 3rd graders can't read! And they will all vote for Obama, because he is one of them!

Please let it last until November 6th, UNIONS are out-dated and useless in todays economy. When will people see that their union dues get them nothing. Why are civil service employees, teachers, etc even allowed to organize on the tax payers dime? Comical!

"Are they teachers or theifs?"

They are Dependents with Positions at the "Government Trough".

They are Victims that were edumacated via taxpayer loans who now have a "Position" that offers them protection from the economic realities that those who are ripped off to pay them must endure. Ignore the awful truth which is that the real victims are those failed by these Demokrats, and Society that does not get what they over pay for....Educated/Productive Citizens.

They are Demokrats that are entitled and pandered to. They ARE the Demokrat Party of Amerika, and the single biggest contributors to the dumbing down of Amerika, and causing the collapse ofour Civilization!

But, They Vote Demokrat......so keep harvesting from the Money Tree to sustain them!
