TV network accused of insulting Vietnam vets

national TV network that recently portrayed counselors working with people who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle as barbaric is now demeaning Vietnam veterans by casting the country’s communist regime in a positive light.

CBS’“The Amazing Race,” which features teams in a global competition, had the contestants travel to Hanoi.

Contestants sat through a presentation by young people waving Vietnamese flags that feature the communist star in front of the image of communist revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh.

The group sang a song extolling the virtues of communism and socialism, which was described as “beautiful.”

“Vietnam Communist Party is glorious,” they sang.“The light is guiding us to victory. Long live independence and freedom of our nation. Our land does not forget the truth in your name. Vietnam, we are going to the century of light. Socialism is growing more beautiful with time. Follow the party’s step. Be loyal. Be pure. Although the path has been muddy with rain and dusty with sun, Vietnam, spring has come.”

Dan Gainor, vice president of the Media Research Center’s Culture and Media Institute, found the display offensive.

“Forget for a moment that this is communist propaganda being touted by CBS, this is so offensive to Vietnam veterans and their families,” he said.“Let’s sing songs to communist leader Ho Chi Minh, yeah that’s a good way to stand up for our soldiers. When did Jane Fonda take over CBS? This was a race too far.”

The episode comes at a time when Obama has chosen John Kerry, a former Vietnam veteran who criticized the American war effort and compared fellow service members to Genghis Khan, to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Kerry told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in 1971 that veterans told him that war crimes and atrocities were part of the everyday experience of American soldiers in Vietnam.

“They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam,” Kerry alleged.

A photograph of Kerry meeting with communist leaders is on display in the former Museum of American War Crimes in Ho Chi Minh City.

After the presentation, the television contestants were then directed to a room that featured communist propaganda photos. They had to locate a phrase that said “glory to our young generation” in Vietnamese on one of the posters to receive a clue for the next leg of the race.

From there, they traveled to the so-called “B-52 Memorial,” which prominently featured the fuselage of a B-52 bomber shot down by communist forces during Operation Linebacker.

Gainor said CBS’ decision to travel to Vietnam was appalling and a blatant slap in the face of Vietnam veterans.

“The idea of it being a fun thing to have people in a race going to the B-52 display in Hanoi where American bombers were shot down and American crew members were killed is outrageous,” he said.

Gainor said while he has seen some blatant examples of media bias over the past several years, CBS’ positive portrayal of communism surprised even him.

“I’ve been in this business for eight and a half years, and nothing should surprise me anymore. However, I admit I am surprised at this. It would never occur to me to drag the memories of our fallen heroes, families and friends through the mud like this for a game show,” he said.

Gainor believes there is a purpose beyond the shock value that networks typically employ to generate ratings.

“The show has been on the air for a long time, however to keep viewers coming back they keep looking for things such as ‘Let’s Sing Along With Ho,’” Gainor said.“This is at a time when communist Vietnam is reaching out to the United States because they’re afraid of their communist neighbor, China, whom they have gone to war with in the past.

“Suddenly they are trying to cozy up to America, which I think is part of the reason for ‘The Amazing Race’ going there,” he said.“At a time when they are trying to shore up their foreign-policy, we have CBS scraping off the scabs of heartache and pain from the Vietnam war in a deliberate attempt to upset and offend people.”

WND reported just a few weeks ago, another CBS demeaned ex-”gays” and people who work with them.

A February episode of the network’s “Criminal Minds” portrayed people who chose to leave the homosexual lifestyle as potential serial killers and ticking time bombs. In one scene, a computer screen shot features a report portraying “The Ex-Gay Movement.” The description states that cautioning children to not have homosexual thoughts was harmful and that individuals merely claimed they had changed their same-sex attraction.

The show also portrayed those who counsel people wanting to quit the “gay” lifestyle as traumatizing patents and routinely torturing children by forcing them to have sex with prostitutes.

Gainor said the “Criminal Minds” episode is one of the tools used by enemies to stir up hatred of America around the world.

“Leftists always say America is evil, which is why the world hates us, but one of things the world hates about America is the propagandistic entertainment media that, generally speaking, pushes a pro-gay, wildly sexual and violent entertainment agenda on the entire world,” he said.

“The media is no longer a tool for promoting what is good about America, it is now a tool for promoting what’s bad. We saw this in the case of Dennis Rodman who promoted what was bad about America during his trip to Korea. They decided to create a bogus news event by sending Dennis Rodman over North Korea, thereby jeopardize tens of thousands of lives including the lives of our service members over their by further escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.”
