A sad story but it is a known part of home ownership.

Our suburb allows a majority of homeowners on a block to decide if the block gets a sidewalk. Many blocks are without sidewalks, goofy if you ask me.

As far as maintenance goes even thou the sidewalks are on city property residents are responsible for all repairs and snow removal etc, and snow removal is mandatory or a ticket follows.

It is very common for residents to repair the sidewalks themselves OR simply hire whomever they want to do the repair.

It seems if a homeowner approached Mpls with a plan to fix the walks themselves especially in hardship cases the city should allow those repairs.$4K seems like a lot for repairs but cement work (removal and replacement) isn't cheap. Maybe it can be just repaired without complete R&R. The city has no consideration for residents and probably just replace it all.

Why the hell did this 'single mother' make the news?
Here's an idea, sell the house on the corner, pay your bills, stop having kids with no Dad, and STFU!
If you think being a homeowner in Minneapolis is expensive now, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

If she were a military 'widow' she wouldn't be a proud single mother, as she made quite clear in her 15 minutes of TV fame. And if she were a military widow, the media would have used that to add a little sympathy to their stupid story. Also, an account would be set up at a local bank, so the granola spewing liberals could contribute to her sad situation.

Our neighborhood is very quiet. No sidewalks and no street lights to pollute the night sky. I hope some do-gooder does not decide we need those things and that we should all pitch in to pay for it.
Kind of like those people who move to homes near railroad crossings and then find a way to ban the train horns at night.

You are blessed living out there in the Nth ring 'burbs. Keep it simple if you can, Government gets stupid move out a bit further. Sad fact about Government is they tend to build empires because the bigger they grow it the higher their rank is making more and more money.

And the taxpayers are like cooking frogs, they feel the first warm water and then they slowley turn it up until they are cooked.
