Isles trade Nino Niederreiter to Minnesota Wild for Cal Clutterbuck
The Islanders didn't have a pick in the top five on Sunday, but they still made a move early in the NHL Draft, trading away disgruntled prospect Nino Niederreiter to the Wild for physical winger Cal Clutterbuck and Minnesota's third-round pick in Sunday's draft.

Clutterbuck, 25, has been a mainstay the last five seasons with the Wild as an agitator, penalty killer and a player with a bit of scoring skill, topping out at 19 goals in 2010-11. He's currently a restricted free agent, but the Isles should be a place he wants to play -- Clutterbuck was teammates and linemates with John Tavares for Oshawa in junior hockey in 2006-07.

Niederreiter, 20, was the Isles' first-round pick in 2010, No. 5 overall, and made the leap from juniors to the Isles for the 2011-12 season. But it was a mess for the young Swiss-born wing, who had just one point in 56 games playing on the fourth line.

Rangers trade for Minnesota Wild's Justin Falk
The Rangers have acquired defenseman Justin Falk from the Minnesota Wild on Sunday for the rights to forward Benn Ferriero and a sixth-round pick in next year's draft.

The 24-year-old Falk had three assists and 40 penalty minutes in 36 games last season with the Wild. He posted a plus or even rating 27 times and skated in his 100th NHL game on March 27 against Phoenix. Falk also played in four playoff games, making his postseason debut May 3 at Chicago in Game 2 of the first-round series.

In 108 regular-season games over four seasons, the 6-foot-5 Falk has one goal, 14 assists and 100 penalty minutes.

The 26-year-old Ferriero is a restricted free agent. He had one assist in four games with the Rangers last season after being acquired from Pittsburgh on Jan. 24. The draft choice going to the Wild originally belonged to Columbus.
