Ikea: Fecal Bacteria in Cake

If you thought horse meatballs were bad, this might cause you to swear off discount furniture store eateries forever. Chinese health authorities have confiscated two tons of Ikea's almond chocolate cakes that were shipped in from Sweden after they tested positive for a high level of coliform bacteria—which are usually found in abundance in the feces of many animals, the Local reports.

The Telegraph reports that Ikea has responded to the findings by removing the affected cakes from 23 countries, though an Ikea spokesman noted that "there is no health risk associated with consuming this product." (Unlike E.coli, coliform bacteria doesn't typically cause illness.) But "since the product does not comply with our strict food quality standards," it's going ahead with the recall, which, for once, does not affect the UK.
