A lot of noise has been made recently about Mpls and St Paul "investing" in streetcar lines again.

One example is a streetcar route from Lake Street & Nicollet to 41st & Central in Minneapolis.

Cost:$200 million minimum

Justification: Because it would be 20% less expensive than light rail.

WTF?

1. There are busses running that same route today. What is wrong with continuing that service?

2. The new justification for wasting money in Minneapolis is that it is not as big a waste as something else.

3. Minneapolis is broke now. Stop spending money you don't have.

Why don't they bring back the Model T Ford?

It was wonderfull for driving on mud roads of the time.

And for long trips the train was wonderfull because there were no freeways at the time.

Now if they really want to get efficent they should bring back horses. Horses never get stuck, burn no gas, generate fertilizer, are easy to produce they don't require a factory that generates pollution, don't need a garage to park 'em in.

HORSE GET'S MY VOTE!

Almost forgot. Horses will cut your grass so you don't need at gas or electric lawnmower.

Then they krap on the yard and fertilize it so it grows more food for themselves. A recycling machine.

Can ya beat that?

I saw a piece on the tube last night about San Francisco's cable cars. Apparently they can't be modified or upgraded because they have been declared historic icons. But the city has had to shell out millions to cover the injury suits.

Have you ever been on the SF Cable Cars? They are a blast. That looney bin of a town is one of my favorite places to go.

And I can understand the injury suits. Like everywhere these days. People get careless and then blame someone else. If you don't hang on with the cable car, you can easily get tossed off.

It is a sign of what the USA has become with the Obama generation. Be stupid. Sue someone or something. Get a big payday and sit on your ass looking for your next opportunity to steal from someone who works for a living.

- Liberal rocker John Mellencamp wants Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to know he supports collective bargaining and union rights and says Walker should be aware of that before using his song "Small Town" on the campaign trail.

Mellencamp's publicist Bob Merlis told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he sent Walker's campaign an email not asking him to stop using the song, but to inform him of Mellencamp's beliefs.

"He's a very liberal person," Merlis said of the singer. "He appeared at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. His wife at the time was a delegate at large. He's very pro-collective bargaining and the fight for a living wage."

subsidized public transportation - charge what it costs to operate this black hole of waste. The tax is not fair, it only helps the people that pay no taxes. 10 dollars each way is a good starting point, MAKE A PROFIT !

Originally, all the street car lines in Minneapolis and St Paul were privately owned. They went bankrupt with the advent of better streets and large buses. Lowry, of Lowry tunnel renown, was one of the street car line owners.
