Zero balance budgeting. Make every State agency justify their needs. Why is it just fine to cut budgets in the private sector and to lay people off, but in the government, that's a travesty. Cut government waste, like diversity coordinators in the schools, and bring State benefits in line with the private sector.

Hey Timmy, wake up, in this economy you can't afford to lose the revenue from the Racino and Vikings.(200-300 million) Your own agenda to run for President will make many Minnesotan's vote elswhere. Stay home and take care of business!!!

sounds like a flip flop to me. tim gave mild support to racino in the past. being a fellow alumi from ssp and in agreement with his attempt to teach the dfl fiscal responsibilty, i am solid in tpaws corner. but to turn down another stream in tax revenue is disappointing. i do not think that every decision he makes will come back to bite him in his run for president. sitting on the sidelines this session is a mistake for mn.

i wonder if all nay sayers of racino have ever been to a mn casino? like in the field of dreams, "if you build it they will come". we are not talking about a casino in mpls or st. paul. where it would be easy and cheap to get a bus or cab to. it is a facility 5 minutes from m.lake. it is another option to offer people who CHOOSE gamble. if racino does not succeed, say good bye to the horse industry and the jobs they create, and the taxes paid.

How 2 faced can you be Pawlenty. First you say that the Vikings are not going to leave on your watch and then you destroy every idea that is presented to you to fund a stadium, even those that don't raise taxes. Pick a side so we know where you stand!!

also lets not forget who the biggest pusher of gambling is in the state. it is the mn state lottery. both political sides are hypocrites.

They should attach the racing casino or just casino to the Mega Mall - at least the train runs there from downtown and the airport. thae taxpayer paid for the train - maybe some of the money from the gamblers can pay for the train, too.

Pawlenty you are a fool!
GAMBLING is the only way to pay for a Vikes stadium, roads, bridges, healthcare and education. A Racino is a brilliant idea that can act as one big piggy bank to fix this state's budget mess. Gambling is the medicine for these ills and you are out of touch with reality as you sit there and say NO.
You have 0 solutions that you are putting out there, and hence the Vikings leaving for LA will be all you are remembered for!!!!!!!!!!

Tim Pawlenty has been governor for nearly 8 years now, during that time the projected cost of a Viking stadium has skyrocketed from around $450 million to over 1.16 billion. And still no solution.
As early as 1994, the Vikings were indicating to the state that something had to be done immediately to fix the Viking stadium quandry and yet here we sit in 2010 (basically) with still no solution in sight.
Back in 1995-1998, the cost to build a Viking stadium might have been done for as little as $250 million on the cheap.
12 years later it is WELL over 1 bilion and soon nearing 1.75 billion.
How stupid and pathetic is this state and the fools in Saint Paul up at the Capital for allowing it to come to this????
I encourage everyone to take out your anger at the voting polls next fall in 2010. All these morons have to go!!!!!!!!!!

We could close the union schools and use that for the stadium - a much better free enterprise investment! Remember, Govt is the problem!

your command of history is laughable. lets review the history of the casinos. they were brought about during the perpich governorship. the deals were negoitated by then atoorney general hubert skippy huphrey. the deal was perpetual with no provisions nor sunset and the price was fixed. about $100,000 for ever not to increase. so let me explain that to you it does not materially benefit anybody but the indians. it does not even cover the state cost for enforcement or overseeing it. next the casinos protectors have always been the democrats and as a result they give 100% of their donations to the democrats.so the democrats also benefit. the governor does not draft nor pass the legislation the reps and sen do. he merely signs or rejects he does not draft. these are the facts so read them and next time you speak you will not look so stupid

If you think the Gov is not in on writing legislation you are the naive one. This Gov has a very distinct history of telling lawmakers what to write so that we all may be "blessed" with his signature. I don't think I can say he is the worst Gov ever but he is the most arrogant (and that is saying something with considering the other guy who used to wear a feather boa).
