NYC health officicals warns of new, deadly meningitis strain

The New York City health department has issued new recommendations for vaccinating against a new and lethal strain of bacterial meningitis.

It says the symptoms come on quickly and the disease can be fatal if not treated immediately.

It's only been seen in men. The patients often contract it through anonymous sexual encounters with other men. That makes it hard to trace the infection's path.

The standard meningitis vaccine is effective against the new strain. The health department is advising it for men regardless of HIV status who regularly have contact with other men they meet online, at a bar or party.

The health department says 22 cases have been reported since 2010, including 13 last year and four this year. Seven have been fatal.

It's natures way of weeding out the stupid ones who have unprotected sex with strangers.

This will most likely move to women who get infected by their closeted boyfriends or husbands too.

The victims of Crossfire are never intended... There is a reason normal straight people now have Aids (in this country a majority are still members of the gay community)

There will always be new viruses and bacteria to kill off the gay population. That's because they pound their shafts raw in the E coli canal. That place is a factory for bacteria and the viruses love the bloodborne route.

Crystal Meth and the Gay Community
In recent years crystal meth has become the drug of choice in the gay men’s party scene. Like the mainstream use of crystal meth this trend spread from west to east – San Francisco to New York and Vancouver to Toronto. At “PNP” parties (shorthand for “party and play”– meaning sex and drugs) crystal meth known as “tina” increases energy and reduces sexual inhibition. The superhuman feeling that often comes with a crystal meth high means the sex is often unprotected.
The dangerous mix of crystal meth and unprotected sex got the world’s attention in February 2005 when it was revealed that a New York City man who is a frequent crystal meth user and had unprotected sex with numerous other men contracted a highly virulent strain of HIV. The virus with which he is infected is resistant to three out of the four classes of commonly used HIV drug treatments and is so fast-acting that it progressed from initial infection to full-blown AIDS within three months.

Meningitis is an infection of the lining that covers the brain. It can be a very dangerous condition, especially if it is not diagnosed and treated early. There are many causes of meningitis including several bacteria such as two strains of Streptococcus, Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilius influenzae and viruses such as a group of enteroviruses, herpes viruses, and HIV among many others. The bacteria that cause meningitis travel through the blood to reach the covering of the brain and infect it. Unfortunately, many of the bacteria that cause meningitis colonize the nose and throat and as your concern points out are transmitted through respiratory droplets. Viral meningitis can be transmitted in much the same way, though it is also spread by fecal-oral routes and insect bites. Luckily, only family members and contacts working within approximately three feet of those who have meningitis are considered to be at high risk.
