Well, I too think that bad parenting decisions are too often not part of the equation when a tragic event occurs.
In this case it seems a bit like 'piling on' to me...
But I seriously agree that the death of a child is about as bad as it gets.

"Piling on?" This guy had a half dozen kids, and loaded guns all over the house, including a couple 'hidden' in a diaper bag. Stupidity shouldn't be rewarded, this guy should get a stiff sentence, like the jury indicated.

Reasonable response...
Sometimes, though not very often, I kinda wish I had a JD. Not having one leaves me defer to your perspective...

Exactly. It's tragic when a child loses his or her life because a caregiver is too stupid to keep their guns away from kids, but gun control is not going to change that. When a tragedy happens, use the laws that already exist: lock 'em up. You can't fix stupid, but you can get it out of the home.

Actually, gun control, education, and training WILL CHANGE THAT !!!!

My favorite non-smart comment, was the 787 will never fly passengers with lithium ion batteries... RIGHT !!???

Gun training, education, and control will prevent EXACTLY this kind of tragedy, just like England.

YOU can't fix STOOPID, but you do post it frequently.

More kids die from back yard pools and dogs. Fill those pools in and get rid of your dog :)

When do you prosecute a grieving parent. I have friends whose sun broke his neck in their swimming pool. Should they be prosecuted? I have another friend who left his baby in the car and he died. How do you live with something like that?

Blathering seems "right", but the reality is you're using a straw-man "argument" and guns are well designed TO KILL !!

How many Dollars did the Lawyer Branches of the Law Enforcement Industries spend for thier Job Security, to determine that this man, who's life is effectively over, was responsible for the actions of his children. and is responsible for his irresponsibility?

We need more Laws and More Dependents with Government Jobs in Amerika's Law Enforcement Industies.

I have an Idea. Take this Father out back, "Flog" him, and beat the demons out of him so that he can once again live. He would Value it, and society's need for justice will be met......(But the Lawyers will not be enriched)

exactly why would you think this "piling on" as you say? bottom line here is if the parent had not left the gun loaded and accessible this accident would never have happened. the parent was at fault and should be held accountable...

don't be a retard if you can help it. this person left loaded weapons around that kids found and played with and another child died. this accident was much more preventable. and if you want to talk about dogs and swimming pools those are preventable too if parents actually watch their kids...

Don't disagree really.
And based on the way things are, he's gotta pay, I get that.
My only point was that it's like a triple whammy:
-Guy's gotta go through the grief of losing his kid,
-He's also gotta go through the pain of knowing it's his fault his kid is dead,
-He's gotta go through a trial and do jail time...

Can tell you first hand that most folks never get over the first one.
And I can't imagine what one goes through if you tack on the second, and then the third...
Fkrs life is over...

yes it's true enough his life is over but sometimes you need to make an example of things like this because if it wakes up a few people to their own stupidity regarding how and where they store guns then maybe a few less kids will die from their parents stupidity.
I don't really feel bad for the father as harsh as that sounds. I feel bad for the son who shot his brother and the boy that was killed

" because if it wakes up a few people to their own stupidity regarding how and where they store guns then maybe a few less kids will die from their parents stupidity."

..........

I will use great restraint here.

This is one of the "Unintentionally" stupid things I have read on Topix in a long time.

I say Unintentional because nobody could reveal the level of ignorance displayed in such a short sentence, by design.

EVERY Child that Dies by anything but Natural Causes/Terminal Illness, dies because of their "Parents Choices".

Stupid, Dumb, Irresponsible, uncaring , or a "Choice" on the part of Mommy and/or Daddy has to be the leading cause of death in children since God Created Children!

.........."make an example"..........

"Gosh darn, now that I have seen what happened to that Iddiiot Father who left a Loaded gun in his home, I think that I will empty my 76 weapons so that my kid does not shoot my other kid!"

Please tell us you do not vote?
