Plowing begins on Night Plow Routes at 9:00 P.M. and continues through the night into the morning until the snow is plowed to the curb. With blowing snow, your curb length may change. Parking is banned on these routes until snow is plowed all the way to the curb, unless there is blowing snow. This plowing operation takes 8 to 12 hours to complete depending on the amount of snow and how many tickets we can give. Night Plow Routes are typically the busy streets -- marked with signs that say "NIGHT PLOW ROUTE" or "NIGHT PLOW ROUTE on streets we consider busy" -- plus one side of north-south residential streets, and your license plate ending in an ODD NUMBER or the letters "A," "T" or "X" with signs that say "NIGHT PLOW ROUTE THIS SIDE OF STREET." All downtown streets are on the night plow route.

Snow Emergency in Minnesota

Ole and Lena were sitting down to their usual morning cup of coffee listening to the weather report coming over the radio. "There will be 5 to 8 inches of snow today, and a snow emergency has been declared" the weather
report said. "You must park your cars on the odd numbered side of the streets."

Ole says "Jeez, okay," and gets up from his coffee.

The next day they're sitting down with their morning cups of coffee and since the snow emergency is still ongoing, the radio announcer said, "You must park your cars on the even numbered side of the streets today".

Again Ole says "Jeez, okay," and gets up from his coffee.

Two days later, again they're sitting down with their cups of coffee and the weather forecaster says, "There will be 3 to 5 inches of snow today, and a snow emergency has been declared. You must park your cars on the..."and just then the power goes out and Ole doesn't get the rest of the instructions.

He turns to Lena and says "Jeez, what am I going to do now, Lena?" And Lena replies "Aw, Ole, why don't you just leave the car in the garage today?"

That's a great public service announcement. What a team player.

Anytime St Paul and Minneapolis declares a snow emergency what it really means IS their roads WILL NOT be driveable until spring.

After their cleanup it's fun to drive down a road with a suburb on one side and St Paul on the other and notice how the St Paul roads look like wagon paths with trenches and the suburb roads ARE plowed curb to curb with no trenches.

It's the Union employees.

They don't understand how to plow snow.

There are many cases of plow drivers driving their trucks around with the plows up and ignoring roads that aren't plowed.

It's a joke in the Union shop, how they can cause traffic jams and wrecks.
