Stop and think about this. 18,000 people are now out of work because 5,300 people refused to take an 8% pay cut as decided by a bankruptcy judge.

This is the court who said the 8% cut is what is needed for the business to stay open.

Because those 5,300 union members would not accept an 8% cut in pay, 18,000 people are out of work.

18,000 jobs gone. How sad.

Stupid Sludge. It is a Judge of the Bankruptcy Court that imposed the 8% pay cut.

The union members went on strike and caused the company to shut down.

18,000 jobs. Gone.

Today, Hostess Brands inc.-- the company famed for its sickly sweet desert snacks like Twinkies and Sno Balls -- announced they'd be shuttering after more than eighty years of production.

But while headlines have been quick to blame unions for the downfall of the company there's actually more to the story: While the company was filing for bankruptcy, for the second time, earlier this year, it actually tripled its CEO's pay, and increased other executives' compensation by as much as 80 percent.

At the time, creditors warned that the decision signaled an attempt to "sidestep" bankruptcy rules, potentially as a means for trying to keep the executive at a failing company. The Confectionery, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers International Union pointed this out in their written reaction to the news that the business is closing:

BCTGM members are well aware that as the company was preparing to file for bankruptcy earlier this year, the then CEO of Hostess was awarded a 300 percent raise (from approximately $750,000 to $2,550,000) and at least nine other top executives of the company received massive pay raises. One such executive received a pay increase from $500,000 to $900,000 and another received one taking his salary from $375,000 to $656,256.

Certainly, the company agreed to an out-sized pension debt, but the decision to pay executives more while scorning employee contracts during a bankruptcy reflects a lack of good managerial judgement.

It also follows a trend of rising CEO pay in times of economic difficulty. At the manufacturing company Caterpillar, for example, they froze workers' pay while boosting their CEO's pay to $17 million. And at Citigroup, CEO Vikram Pandit received $6.7 million for crashing his company, walking off with $260 million after the business lost 88 percent of its value.

Hostess is hurting because Michelle Obama has attacked ALL sweet treats, more Hope and Change.

Hostess sales has tanked eliminating profits needed to keep the company going.

Has nothing to do with CEO pay OR Union contracts. The end was near anyway..

Hey, IDIOT, RETARD, MORON, the pay cut was in ALL of the ranks, in EVERY JOB CLASSIFICATION, UNION **AND** MANAGEMENT, an 8% CUT in pay. So a single union shut down the jobs, their benefits, their pensions, all in one fell swoop. Talk about STUPIDITY.

Either way, I'm sure the loving labor union will certainly support those 18, 000 employees, right? I mean those people paid hard earned dues for decades and were fiercely loyal to the union without fail. I'm sure the fairness minded union will give some of those dues back to help those loyal employees and their families. Right?

Right?

Most unions donate money to other unions to support their causes... Some donate to food banks and many walk other picket lines. Few hate other American workers, like you morons...Good work, YOU won us the election.

Stupid, trashy, imbecile Slew. 18,000 employees walking off the job nation wide had nothing to do with forcing the company into bankruptcy, right? Why are libs so dumb? And illogical?

Didn't the CBO do an impact analysis before allowing Michelle Obama to go on her healthy food crusade?

What is the impact of Michelle's banning Hostess products from school lunches and vending machines?

We now know the impact is 38,000,000,000 US jobs lost. Who cares the election is over and those layed off will get: FREE ObamaCare, ObamaPhoces, ObamaEBT, Obama houseing, Obama food stamps, Obama education, Obama birth control pills, Obama condums, Obama transportation etc etc etc.....

It's all FREE!!!!

Man the USA is one fine place to live, ain't it greeeaaatt?
