WASHINGTON -- Boeing has developed a plan that it intends to propose to federal regulators to temporarily fix problems with the 787 Dreamliner's batteries that have kept the planes on the ground for more than a month, a congressional official told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner is expected to present the plan to Michael Huerta, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, in a meeting on Friday, the official said. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly.

Boeing Co. spokesman Marc Birtel said the company doesn't talk in advance about meetings with federal officials.

"Everyone is working to get to the answer as quickly as possible, and good progress is being made," Birtel said.

"Never fly again" ??? IT FLEW YESTERDAY !!!

Boeing said its flight test team flew a 787 Dreamliner Monday to Moses Lake.

This was not the demonstration flight for FAA certification of the battery fix. That test is expected in a few days.

Nor was the flight intended to gather data on new power panel engineering, a test that was postponed from Saturday. Boeing spokesman Marc Birtel said the flight “addresses ongoing system upgrades to the airplane.”

A source familiar with the details said that includes an engine anti-ice system.

The jet took off at 11:19 a.m. in Everett, hugged the Washington and Oregon coastline flying southwards, then headed back on a northeasterly track and landed at Moses Lake at 1:30 p.m.

After a brief stop there, the jet returned to Everett shortly after 2 p.m.

787 failed to fly as scheduled.

What is the problem?

A CLEAR INDICATION of a failure.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it would send airlines instructions and publish a notice next week lifting the 3-month-old grounding order that day. Airlines will be able to begin flying the planes again as soon as the new systems are installed and they have approval from safety regulators in their own countries. Dreamliner flights could resume within a week, the agency told members of Congress.

Perhaps, if you were non-stupid, instead of a non-starter. People would pay attention to you ??

Nope, blather about 6 months, on a battery rework done in February.

Yeah, I wrote rework and so did Boeing, boi.

Boeing said on Monday that the first flight test of its reworked battery system for the 787 Dreamliner went "according to plan," enabling it to move on to formal testing.
