When adopting members of the diversity tribe, be prepared for a death in the famdamily.

“She was the glue that held the team together,” said the school’s girls varsity coach, Al Roth.“She was a quiet leader.”

Meanwhile, several people who knew Travis described him as reserved and quiet. Former schoolmates at Westwood Regional High School said they did not know why Travis, who was on the football team’s roster in the fall of 2012, did not return to the school for his senior year this past fall. His father said on Friday that Travis was being home-schooled.

A neighbor on Pershing Avenue, Steve Hill, said he used to see Travis riding his bicycle and described him as “socially awkward,” but quickly added that he never saw any indication that something was wrong.

“There was never any sign of violence,” Hill said.
