What are some pros and cons of living in Mn? I hear the winters are kind of crazy, but other than that is there anything else I should know? I traveled the state last summer and absolutely loved it! Thanks

Ps- How well are the roads kept during the snowy season?

If you like limousine liberals who push their tired agenda up all of our behinds, you will fit right in here. Even our governor wants to regulate who our pro sports teams can hire and fire. Every 'protected' class of people can expect to be coddled and favored for just being in said 'protected class'. Just call Minnesota 'San Francisco II'.

Visiting a state is much different from living in one. This state has gone downhill in many ways over the past 30 years. Taxes are sky high, regulations are everywhere, the job market isn't all that great, and the roads are in need of a lot of work.

The majority of public schools are becoming increasingly dysfunctional, there is a large number of recent immigrants (both legal and illegal) who are becoming an increasingly larger burden on the state, gay marriage will soon be legalized, and it costs a lot to live here.
If you come here, have a good car, a good job,
and strong sense of individual responsibility.
If you are a freeloader, you can make it, but
you probably won't like it for very long. The
middle class here is being slowly chewed up by
the billionaires, lobbyists, and politicians at
EVERY level.

There are lots of crazy and stupid drivers here,
many drive without a license or insurance.

Drugs and gangs are always a problem, especially in the larger cities.

Whatever you do, do not let anything on this discussion board influenc your decision to move to Minnesota. This is not a good place for that kind of research. If I were in your situation, I would attempt to find somebody in Kentucky who has lived in Minnesota to more of an objective answer.

Agree, and make sure the persn in Ky lived in Minnesota in the summer it can be lot nicer here then if you don't mind biting bugs, tornados, road repair, traffic congestion, criminals from Chicago, jerk drivers (made that way be krappy roads) etc. Of course once you move here you WILL develop your own list of things you hate in Minnesota, maybe jerks like me will be on your list.

The truth of the matter is available in this and the other thread.

You asked a simple question on roads.

Well you see Twin Cities roads, they call them freeways but they arn't, are congested year around. The Government will not expand the metro roads to accomodate the traffic.

So during the snowy season the metro roads come to a standstill if there is any snow or ice. Don't trust me but you can view current road conditions on the following WEB site. The WEB Site lists cameras, wrecks, road construction and traffic speeds. Note when red it means DEAD STOPPED!

http://www.dot.state.mn.us/tmc/trafficinfo/ma...

If you view the traffic map during snow or rain it's not unusual for the entire map to be RED, stopped. That would indicate about 1,000,000 cars are not moving. Remember the highway map does NOT include secondary roads that are also STOPPED DEAD. You see the secondary roads stop as soon as the highways because drivers bail off the highways when they come to a stop. They choose secondary roads as an escape but to no avail.

Now if you move to non-metro Minnesota the traffic is much better. It's just the metro that is real bad. A friend lives on the Minnesota iron range, Virginia Mn, and he tells me a rush hour to him is seeing 1 (one) car on the way to work.

BTW, the best way to live in Minnesota is to own a house with an attached garage to park your commuter vehicle in and live and work in the same suburb OR work out from where you live in order to avoid inbound rushhour.

The LIBERALS are KILLING this state, and there is no DOUBT ABOUT IT.

The Dakotas, even Wisconsin, are all doing better economically than Minnesota. The only reason that Minnesota is doing "ok" is because the democraps are hiring more workers in state/county government, thinking, like Obama, that hiring/paying worthless, unproductive people in GOVERNMENT is a "good way" of promoting gov't stimulus, which helps keep the economy chugging along.

PLUS, the improvements in Minnesota, up 'til now, are a result of the LAST LEGISLATURE, not the CURRENT ONE.

When all of these "new" tax increases go into effect, you will see a LOT of Minnesotans driving across state borders to buy their
alcohol, tobacco, gas, and many OTHER items in OTHER states.
