Even if a person lives in a apartment with no patio. One can still have a windowsill garden.
.
One can grow things like lettuce, strawberries, chives, kale, green beans, etc... In either a rectangular flower box or even 4 rain gutters strung up in the window from the top of the window.
.
Dirt if done right, is free. Fertilizer can be that batch of coffee grounds layered on top of the soil. Instead of throwing them away. Same with if you can get your hands on a couple of eggs worth of shells.
.
Main cost would be outright be the rain gutters cut to internal size of the window, the chains to hook them together, As well as the large eyeloop hooks to hang it from the window frame. Once you create the gutter system. Only price after that is the seeds each year you do it.

Problem is people living on food stamps are too lazy to work in a garden.

Of course Hmong are an exception and work in gardens.

Thing is, not everyone who is poor is on foodstamps. And not everyone who is on food stamps are poor.
.
And I've seen some of those who are on food stamps actually do try and do stuff like a small garden. My ex-sister in law kept a garden to help feed herself and her son.
.
Plus, I wasn't talking a LARGE garden. I'm referring to one that can fit into a single window. To help ease things. As well as give that person a sense of pride in themselves.

I agree with you gardening ideas for ones apartment can even include hydro ponic gardening
where a person can even raise their own fish to eat and recycle the water from fish tank rich in nutrients to plants and back again minus the nutrients only clean water going back to fish..

I could really get into this gardening thing. Does anyone know where I can buy a good hoe?
