Good thing too. Some of the buildings that were on the block are over a hundred years old.
In many ways, they are just as much as a part of Dinkytown as the various businesses that are there.

Just because a building is over a hundred years old doesn't make it historic. Just old and outdated. Private development should be able to modernize the city at their own expense. Look at the hypocrisy of tearing down the Art Deco, Star Tribune building because it fits into the social engineering plans of the government.
