School Districts Closed As Teachers Skip Work To Attend Protests (Michigan)

Source: CBS - Detroit

School has been canceled in two Michigan school districts as hundreds of teachers are expected to call in sick Tuesday to join right-to-work protests in Lansing.

Taylor Public Schools will be closed down because of the high number of staff that have already called in, apparently to attend the demonstrations. Superintendent Diane Allen told WDIV-TV there won’t be enough teachers to cover classrooms. She said she had heard from a principal about where the teachers were going.

Warren Consolidated Schools will also be closed Tuesday, due to number of teacher absences for the same reason...

Another reason public employees should be barred from organizing. Parents that have to stay home from work will remember this at the polls next election cycle.

Let's see, I can go to my job and do the thing I claim to be proud of doing for fair pay, or I can go complain to the governor about something that likely won't impact me by calling in sick for a few days and inconveniencing hundreds of parents that employ me. I pick the inconveniencing the parents and not doing my job thing. Tough being a Michigan teacher.

Last year in Madison, a fake doctor was handing out "notes" for calling in sick. There were probably more than a few fake notes handed out today.

Prove they have "fake notes", all it takes is a Flu shot visit and you take earned sick leave....

7% of 8th graders in Detroit are proficient at reading, either the teachers there are incompetent, or they take lots and lots of days off..........

So point out the lie in the statement, or don't. Are more than 7% of 8th graders in Detroit proficient at reading or not?

Good thing those teachers have a union and are paid on seniority instead of actual results.

I like how you want to underpay American workers, so both parents have to work and Johnny is a latchkey kid from poor parents, THEN magically, the teachers are to blame..... Nice "math", where you create the problem to underpay college educated people, doing their best to teach kids with absent, hard working, worn out,(financially)poor parents.

Maybe they should just do an honest day's work for an honest day's pay for once. 7% of 8th graders reading at grade level? 4% of 8th graders doing math at grade level? Kids raised in the wild by wolves would likely score higher.

I like how you want to overpay workers just based on time in position with no regard for actual results achieved.
