Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has signed a plea deal in relation to charges of misusing campaign funds, a deal that includes "significant jail time," according to sources at the Chicago Sun-Times.
The congressmen allegedly used official funds to decorate his Chicago home and purchase a $40,000 Rolex for a female friend.
Jackson resigned from the House after being re-elected in November 2012. His criminal misuse of funds was already being investigated prior to his re-election, and he'd also caused consternation by disappearing for 3 weeks and re-emerging to reveal a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. As Fox News puts it, "the confirmation of a plea deal marks another blow for a public figure who was once considered a rising star."
