While abhorrent if true, the "targeting" of Tea Party groups seems to have a potentially totally rational explanation. As others have pointed out, the IRS is required to investigate the tax exempt status of those who apply for it. With this in mind, it must be noted that in the wake of the Citizens United decision these tax-exempt groups were not formed with equal fervor by both sides, nor was there any sort of normal distribution across the political spectrum with these groups. Simply put, Tea Party groups (and other conservative leaning groups) got out way ahead of their counterparts on the left and were forming these groups at a far higher rate than anything the Dems were pushing.

It may have simply been a numbers game. If the IRS is charged with investigating these groups, and the right is forming 10 of these groups to every 1 formed on the left, then of course the list of investigated groups is going to look politically skewed. The real issue here is the apparent kiddy-glove treatment the truly significant players were granted. The IRS went after the low hanging fruit with no lawyers and minimal political impact while seemingly ignoring the well funded, well connected 800lb gorillas in the room.

Being a rational man, I'll patiently await the results of an independent investigation into any political motivations. However, it appears to me that the wealthy and well connected continue to play by a different set of rules than the rest of us.

The IRS could be the tip of the iceberg. What other government agencies were denying fair rights, process, status, etc to Obama's critics?

How many more conservatives versus liberals suffered tax audits since 2008?

How many more conservatives versus liberals lost legal battles to liberal activist judges since 2008?

How many more conservatives versus liberals were denied federal funding since 2008?

I would say this is Obama's Watergate, but he seems to be having a number of those at once.

"This kind of reconfirms that, you know what, they can do anything they want to anybody they want any time they want," GOP Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania said about the IRS.

The public gallery erupted in cheers and applause when he concluded by saying: "This is absolutely an overreach and this is an outrage for all Americans."

This story should have come out last summer. Instead a massive conspiracy kept it quiet until after the election. Typical left wing criminality.

To fail as a manager first Obama has to be a manager.

He has NEVER been a manager so he isn't a failed manager.

He is incompetent and never got off the ground as president. His beer summit was the first indication of his total incompetence and he has continued to show how poor a president he is.

Other than your typical troll posts, this is EXACTLY why you have zero credibility. The IRS played a vital roll in the swaying of votes in the election. Once Obama gets connected to all of this, he should be impeached for it.

Exactly. Or, more to the point, a strategy or plan. This was about as 'accidental' as the Watergate break in.

The libs can try to desperately blow past the facts and bury this story as much as they can, but the facts are that the liberal IRS cabal ordered these people flagged:

-- Whether the issues outlined in the application included government spending, government debt or taxes.

-- Whether there was advocating or lobbying to "make America a better place to live."

-- Whether a statement in the case file criticized how the country is being run.

-- Whether it advocated education about the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

This was not a mistake, despite the desperate attempts now to cover it up and sweep it under the rug.

The Republikan attempts to manufacture a crisis have failed:

President Barack Obama was riding high in a new opinion poll released on Sunday showing that 53 percent of Americans approve of the way he’s doing his job, despite a flurry of recent scandals.

The survey of 923 adults by CNN and the ORC International polling organization found that 45 percent of respondents disapprove of Obama’s job performance.

In early April, the same poll gave the president a 51 percent approval rating, showing that Obama is holding steady despite a brutal week in which the White House attempted to control damage from three simultaneous scandals which threatened to derail his agenda.

The White House last week was forced to respond to controversy over the administration’s response to last year’s fatal attack on a US mission in Benghazi, Libya; government subpoenas of phone records belonging to the Associated Press news agency; and revelations that federal tax authorities had singled out conservative groups for special scrutiny.

Republicans have used the affairs to accuse the Obama administration of being guilty of a massive abuse of power, which the White House denies.

The polls showed that most Americans believe the scandals are either “somewhat important” or “very important,” but for the time being were giving Obama the benefit of the doubt.

The survey was conducted on Friday and Saturday and had a sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
