Wally 'the Beer Man' won't return to Target Field job, takes bartending gig

OMG I can't buy overpriced 3.2 beer from Wally, what on earth will I do? He sells beer! I give him credit he did a great job of marketing himself, however he is no different than any other guy/gal that sells beer at a sporting event.

Also it was not the Twins decision it was the vending company that hires the workers.

As much as I did not buy a beer from Wally,( remember that there are other beer vendors) I can feel for Wally. His office ( Twins Stadium ) is located within five minutes of crack dealers / hookers and much more serious crime. And the police choose to go after a beer vendor!

This is really a petty crime and although Wally is guilty as h@ll it really is a victimless crime.

What is next MPLS police jaywalkers!

Wally doesn't set the price, I'm sure theres a white shirt filled commission that sets the price at the park . He's a celebrity, because he easily outsold his competition. He treated his customers well, had a smile, talked to his customers, treated them and their families great. He is a good guy, that I never minded giving my business to. Even with the price of beer being to high, because of his nature, I usually gave him a tip also. He will be missed at the games. Yes he screwed up, yes he should be punished, but the Twins are loosing out on this one.

And what decent place sells beer for a buck anymore? Yes there a probably a few happy hours that approach that price, but usually beers are $3 or more now. Zara, I guess there are a lot of suckers out there who like to have beer and watch a game. Me being one of them. But again, I do live in Wisconsin.

Couldn't agree more. He broke the rules. While the court may not have convicted him (thanks to his personal marketing), but DNC still has the right to not have him work more games. Good for you, DNC.

Just an FYI - As for his old job at Target Field, "The union talked, said they thought I could get my job back, I told them I wasn't interested.

I did not see anything in the article that said; DNC made the decision that he would not work at Target Field anymore.

It sounds like it was Wally's decision to not work at Target Field any longer. He will get a lot of customers at Sneaky Pete's because he is popular and a well liked person.

You can all complain all you want about how police should do this and should do that instead of worrying about what Wally was doing. Although you are correct that parts of the Twin Cities need some serious police intervention it doesn't change the fact that he clearly sold beer to underage kids. Get over it. He was lucky he was well liked enough to get off the hook.If I was in that same situation you know they'd make me pay a fine and I'd lose my job.

No doubt. When Wally asks if everyone is 21 and they all say "yes" he knows that there isn't an undercover agent trying to get him because the undercovers aren't allowed to say they're under 21. In today's paper it listed the current 2011 payroll for all American League teams:

Since there are 14 teams in the AL, that means that 7 teams have payroll's less than the TWINS, with the Royals having the lowest at $36 mil. Even the lowest paid player on the TWINS, Manship makes more than any lowest paid player from any team in the AL.

Why make it the beer vendors responsibilty to check I.D.'s at the Twins stadium. They are pretty damn busy. Why not show your legal I.D. at a booth outside the Twins stadium, and you get a wrist band. Beer vendors could only sell you a beer if you have a wrist band.

Evidentally, you have not been to Target Field. Every beer I've had has been plenty cold and served in plastic cups and bottles, not paper.

It is my understanding that if you ask an undercover, underage, person working for the police if they are 21 they are suppose to admit that they are not. Why? I am not sure! This could be the reason that he was aquitted.
