Lester William Polsfuss (June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009)[3][4][5]—known as Les Paul—was an American jazz, country and blues guitarist, songwriter and inventor. He was the inventor of the solid-body electric guitar which made the sound of rock and roll possible.[6] He is credited with many recording innovations. Although he was not the first to use the technique, his early experiments with overdubbing (also known as sound on sound),[7] delay effects such as tape delay, phasing effects and multitrack recording were among the first to attract widespread attention.[8]
His innovative talents extended into his playing style, including licks, trills, chording sequences, fretting techniques and timing, which set him apart from his contemporaries and inspired many guitarists of the present day.[9][10][11][12] He recorded with his wife Mary Ford in the 1950s, and they sold millions of records.
Among his many honors, Paul is one of a handful of artists with a permanent, stand-alone exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[13] He is prominently named by the music museum on its website as an "architect" and a "key inductee" along with Sam Phillips and Alan Freed.[14]

Les Paul was far ahead of his time as a performer and innovator and yet he was a friendly, caring person. Thank you for sharing this information and your obvious respect. Please note that Les Paul's death certificate states he died on August 12, 2009. Early press reports got the date wrong and the error continues to spread. Additional information about Les is available at lespaulfoundation.org .

Listened to a really good piece on him on public radio about a year ago. His legacy is underappreciated by some but anyone who listens to modern music is in some way touched by Les Paul's work.

Unsupported by facts, like your repeated lie that I ever used the phrase "murderer's eyes" or "killer's eyes" or any variant of it?

Just what personal shortcoming are you over-compensating for with your obsessive put-downs of others? Loneliness is a given; you don't seem to have enough time away from the forum to have any real life connections.

So, it is in my nature to pity you, the one who is so wounded by my negative opinion of the child-molesting attempted murderer four months after the post in which I said "I see no hope in those vacant eyes". I wish you better days, Seattle. I hope that something really good happens to you, something life-affirming and substantial that helps you see there's so much more beyond your keyboard.

I'll spell it out for you very clearly what many here already know to be true (through years of civil dialogue and for some even meeting me in real life). I am but one person who uses only one posting name; it's the same name I've used since 2008. I don't post without signing in, ever. I struggle with multiple sclerosis, not senility as you've asserted time and again. That chair you mention? It's a wheelchair, thanks for asking. Some days I need it and some days I'm just clumsy on my feet but it's a part of my everyday. I try my best to be accurate, and when I'm wrong I'll admit it immediately. I also try to express my opinions respectfully, though I admit sometimes I fall short of that.

Does tapping away at your tablet all day annoy people in public? I use my smartphone as little as possible when I'm out and about because, frankly, it just seems rude to be glued to a screen.
