I will be starting a job in Fridley summer of 2014, from Indiana. I would like to live in an area with a lot of other young professionals. I'd like to keep the commute under 20-30 minutes. What area should I live in?

I'm 22, male, want a dog, safe neighborhood, reasonable rent. Living around people in their 20's - early30's.

Thanks!

There are apartments in Fridley. Like not far from Moore Lake. There is also a credit union in Fridley called US Federal Credit Union. https://www.usfed.org/home/home
.
As for finding one. Check with a apartment finder service. You could see if a condo unit owner might have a unit to rent. Like at 1701 N Innsbruck Dr.

If you are moving from Indiana to Fridley, does that mean your are going to be working for Medtronic? If so, I am sure they have people who can answer your questions.

I would avoid Georgetown apts. Not the best place. Though they are in walking distance to the bus line as well as at least two parks on the river.

Do yourself a BIG favor and live where you have a SHORT commute to work. If possible plan a commute that doesn't include use of a highway. Metro highways are junk and rated poor because of rush hour congestion. Recently MnDOT hasn't been even plowing the highways leading to metrowide gridlock.

It's very frustrating to have to sit on "highways" for hours each day when you could at work or at home productive.

Of course side streets become congested when highways turn to junk so even a commute avoiding highways will not prove smooth.

That might be true of california highways. I have yet to see it here in Minnesota.
.
But I never had to sit for hours in gridlock between my home and my job when I worked a paying job. Even when I worked at the MoA. Most it took me to get from my home in the northern section of Hennepin County to the Mall by vehicle was forty-five minutes. And that route skimmed along the outer part of the down town part of Minneapolis on I 94. And that was during winter for the time it took between home and work.
.
As for the other job I held for nearly 20 years. That was about a half hour commute one way. Most of it being on local main roads like Boone Ave.
.
And the main roads in Fridley are Hwy 65, University Ave/Hwy 47, 694, and East River Road.
.
Plus the biggest employers in Fridley are located near the highways.
