It is refreshing that the medical industry is taking a fresh look at alternative medicine (herbs)disgarding the pharmacutical products that have questionable science behind them.

This guy is still nuts

I'm always very wary of people that call other people nutters. I've found that when people have to start resorting to insulting others that generally means they have nothing else to say.

Do you have anything input on the article rather then to slander the poster with some back alley, dirty needle in the groin, incoherent written that attacks his character to whom you don't know.

Yes. With understanding that herbal medicine is going to have to play a larger part in medicine because we import from China (other countries)the raw materials that make the prescription drugs.

Problem is that China is not consistent in the processing and quality of chemicals and we don't know what we are getting. It arrives in the USA in a barrel of white power so to speak.

A further threat is the number of people on prescription drugs worldwide. If a shortage accrues we could see lots of deaths, people suffering or people bouncing off the wall in the case of psychotropic (mind) drugs usage.. It is also effecting of our security.

Of additional interest is the pollution of the drugs from human discharge or the manufacturing that is effecting ground water and that causes changes to other life forms including plants.

It is a no brainier that Herbal medicine is less intrusive on the environment and has history of cures.

The war between the Pharmaceutical Industry and the the propaganda generated of herbal medicine was money related.

Today the Pharmacutical Industry is suffering from it's reputation in research and bogus diseases that is causing concern on the medical community and it's doctor / patient relationship.

The medical community has no choice but to except alternative medicine.

The drugs companies are trying to ban herbal medicines, so I understand.

Heh heh heh, they will have a battle on their hands there - it's God they will be fighting - those God given herbs grow out of the God given dirt, rain and sun. What are they going to do, scoop up all the dirt and turn off the rain and sun? I don't think so!

Absolutely right. The pharmaceutical industries want to control health care at all levels and one of the ways is through the United Nations.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission made up of primary pharmaceutical representatives which is mandated to set international reference and standards to herbal products. This means that any herb or mineral will be set on the lean side of any healing abilities and that will enhance the profits of the pharmaceutical and medical communities toward the products they push on the nations and people which in the past 5 years have had limited or bogus research and have been noted as a dangerous products to the health and welfare of the societies by the FDA. Vioxx and the psychotropic (mind) drugs are a good example.

This is a danger to any health freedom movement because the Codex guidelines are enforceable through the World Trade Organizations and use their weight to deny trade in other commodities and import and exports of these nations that don't comply.

In the USA, the alternative organization in medicine are keeping a watchful eye on those politic that are getting back-pocket payoff and lobbying fees from the evilness of pharmaceutical industries. This is a problem worldwide.

Of interest is the manipulation and questionable motive of the FDA as bed partner of the pharmaceutical industry which limited Tryptophan (1980') a natural accruing and Essential amino acid,in food products and made it so that Tryptophan could not be the majority in any food substance while at the same time marketing Prozac. Today with many people compromised on psychotropic drugs the FDA allows Tryptophan.

Note that Tryptophan is essential to a stable personality and other health issues. It was a dirty deal.

While all these comments are worthy of consideration, the responses are dancing around the central message of the article. The focus isn't about promoting herbals. It's promoting conservative therapies as a first response and reserving medications as a last option.

The case cited is also not a recommendation or imprimatur of self-medication. it has the oversight of a physician who is not 'married' to either meds or 'natural' alternatives (which can also be deadly).

Open-minded and pro-patient ... how refreshing.

The Pharmaceuticals along with the health insurance companies are now the "Death Squads" by making prescription brand drugs so costly the average Joe can't afford it, and their excuse is the generic is the same and cheaper. That is a lie. Brands do work better than generics for many people but they can't get them once a generic is born. Generics are made as soon as the brand patent for a specific drug runs out. It is commonly a former employee with that brand company who leaves that company and heads out to another overseas country and makes the generic. Israel, India, China, It goes on and on. Geez, if they are going to jump on the band wagon at least stay in the United States for some safety level. There is truth to this post that you don't know exactly what you are getting from these 3rd world countries and it could eventually be disastrous for Americans being forced to take these generic drugs. "Take them or Die". Do all the CEO's from the insurance companies and the Pharmaceuticals take those generics? It's highly doubtful. And Doctors themselves are not going to take a generic. Our country is turning into a murderous government by letting this happen to the American Citizens by doing nothing to stop these wealthy Greedy companies.

Most meds these days do come from plants. What they are, are the purified forms of the chemical parts of the plants that have been concentrated into their various forms.
.
This one has at least one table:
http://www.rain-tree.com/plantdrugs.htm#.UkNf... The original plant substance/chemical name is shown under the "Drug" column rather than the finished patented drug name. For example, many years ago a plant chemical was discovered in a tropical plant, Cephaelis ipecacuanha, and the chemical was named emetine. A drug was developed from this plant chemical called Ipecac which was used for many years to induce vomiting mostly if someone accidently swallowed a poisonous or harmful substance. Ipecac can still be found in pharmacies in many third world countries but has been mostly replaced by other drugs in the United States.
