Detroit U3 Unemployment is 18.1%. Data from U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Last updated: Dec 11, 2012

If the true numbers for Detroit were available - counting all of those that have fallen out of the jobs market - the unemployment rate would be over 40%.

GM's biggest stock holder is still the US Government and they will never repay the over $200 Billion still owed the US citizens.

From Forbes:

by Louis Woodhill

General Motors Is Headed For Bankruptcy -- Again

President Obama is proud of his bailout of General Motors. Thatís good, because, if he wins a second term, he is probably going to have to bail GM out again. The company is once again losing market share, and it seems unable to develop products that are truly competitive in the U.S. market.

Right now, the federal government owns 500,000,000 shares of GM, or about 26% of the company. It would need to get about $53.00/share for these to break even on the bailout, but the stock closed at only $20.21/share on Tuesday. This left the government holding $10.1 billion worth of stock, and sitting on an unrealized loss of $16.4 billion.

Right now, the governmentís GM stock is worth about 39% less than it was on November 17, 2010, when the company went public at $33.00/share. However, during the intervening time, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen by almost 20%, so GM shares have lost 49% of their value relative to the Dow.

You are a smart guy.

Wouldn't it make a lot of sense to give the shares of GM stock to the TAXPAYERS of the USA.

Don't give any to freeloaders of the USA, you understand.

Once shareholders in GM, taxpayers might be inclined to buy GM vehicles. I understand the US Government is buying GM vehicles but they arn't a driving force in the car buyers market.

It would also remove the stigma associated with GM being owned by Obama. Friends of mine are now Ford owners after buying GM for their entire life, simply because GM is owned by Obama. They want NOTHING TO DO with that man.

On giving the shares of GM stock to the US citizens, I would say no. Not because the US citizens are not deserving of getting something back, but they should be second in line.

The shares of GM stock should be given to those that got shafted when Obama stepped in and screwed the shareholders of the former company out of their retirement and savings. They should be at the front of the line for any payback.

The word in Detroit is that GM's stockpile of unsold vehicles is going to cause some serious problems after the first of the year. There are many ways to pump numbers of manufactured cars (rental car fleets, consigned inventory in car dealer lots, government contracts delivered ahead of schedule, etc.) and GM is going to hit a wall with where to bury the vehicles they have manufactured but not sold to the general public.

Another bankruptcy is a very strong possibility. Or another bailout for the unions from Uncle Barry. Or both.

I should get money first since I lost money from their bonds which in a bankruptcy is paid long before stockholders or the damn union. But laws do not apply to Barry. Personally I hope the just close their doors forever!
