A 57-year-old New Brighton man was in jail Tuesday on suspicion of fatally shooting a neighbor and wounding the victim’s girlfriend in a long-running dispute over what police and neighbors say was the alleged gunman’s anger over the feeding of deer.

Police were called about 8:30 p.m. Monday to the front yard of a home in the 2500 block of Knollwood Drive, where they found a man dead from gunshot wounds and a woman who also had been shot, police said. The home had bullet holes in the front door and its siding.

The woman, identified by family as Jennifer Damerow Cleven, 48, was conscious and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Police have yet to reveal her condition, but her family said she was doing well and had called her adult son to explain what happened.

A neighbor and Damerow Clevens’ family identified the man who was killed as Todd G. Stevens, 46.

Soon after the shootings, Neal C. Zumberge, who lives across the street, called authorities from inside his home to say he wanted to turn himself in, police said.

Neighbor Cathi Williams, congregating Tuesday morning with others near the shooting scene, described both households as “fully armed.… We were just waiting for the grenade to explode.”

This is what happens with no gun control laws. People killed over a deer feeder. This is what Republicans advocate - frontier justice, where anyone with enough money to buy a gun can take the law into their own hands.

Agreed! The government needs to act on gun control laws NOW!

If we could get the obstructionist Republicans out of the way we could solve most of this country's problems.

I'd agree IF a gun without a human pulling the trigger did the killing.

Gun control is like blaming bikes when a rider kills someone by hitting them.

So why then should the government ban or control possession of machine guns, biological agents, explosives, anti-aircraft missiles or nuclear materials? By your twisted logic these objects are inanimate and by themselves cannot harm anyone, right?

Come on, use some common sense here!

Don't roll powerful military equipment to defend the nation with individual use weapons.

It's foolish to compare military grade weapons to home defense weapons.
All weapons have one major defect. One weakness. The user.
With a little effort, almost anyone can get access to, or manufacture, all of the above mentioned weapons. Regardless of the laws.
Determining that inanimate objects cannot, in and of themselves, harm anyone, it is merely a fact. You could be killed with a simple pencil. But not by the pencil.
Use some common sense.

Common Sense has NO common sense.

Gun haters need to take a firearms safety course so they have a little more common sense. Firearms used properly are VERY SAFE.

Here's some basic common sense for you:

The United States has the highest rate of firearm ownership among developed nations.

The United States also has the highest rate of deaths caused by firearms of any developed nation.

Only a fool couldn't see the correlation there.

88,000 deaths attributable to alcohol, about 32,000 attributable to guns, which includes accidents, homicides, suicides (about 60%)
80% of gun homicides are gang related.

Common sense would dictate we ban alcohol and gangs.
But only a fool would mistake a loose correlation with actual cause and effect.

Oh, that's right, I forgot - being from the 1800's you only have a 6th grade education.

There is no rational reason to allow most Americans to own guns.

There is no rational reason for over 400 gang related murders in Chicago last year. Regardless of some of the most strict gun laws in the nation. And there is no need for a "rational reason". There is that whole 2nd amendment thingy. If you don't like it, get it repealed. Good luck getting all of the states to ratify it.

Also, it's not "rational" to insult people just because you are losing an argument.

I believe it was Thomas Jefferson that said that said that no constitution should be in effect for more then a generation; then it should be rewritten,

Well, guess what, it is time. No other nation still allows its citizens unfettered access to firearms, nor is there any rational reason to.

The reason that there are so many gang-related murders in Chicago is that gun control laws on a local basis just don't work. Wisconsin is a half hour drive away from most of Chicago.

You have a valid point about the insult - on Topix I'm used to people that can do little more than hurl insults, which you did not do. I was wrong for throwing the first stone and I apologize.

All you do is insult opposing viewpoints. You have no intellectual honesty.

But we expect nothing less from a paid shill like you.
