Went snowmobiling up north and came upon 4 fresh deer kills by wolves.

Snow is so deep the deer are helpless and wolves are killing all deer.

This coupled with winter kill and fawn loss will leave NO DEER remaining.

What will wolves eat when there are no deer?

I'm sure the Sierra Club will set up a feeding program for them...

I won't hold my breath for the Sierra Club doing anything but flapping their lips to get their way, a bunch of babies they are.

I came across a pile of carcasses like that once while bow hunting. 3 or 4 of them at least. Turned out they had been killed by poachers. They cut off the antlers, took the best meat and a couple hides, and left the rest for the scavengers. In the same WMA I also came across several geese that had been shot, apparently just for fun, and left by the road. Some people are just twisted.

We were hunting with bow and arrow near St Croix Park and asked a local farmer to hunt on his property.

He sent us packing after telling us once the bow and arrow season started all he saw was deer with arrows stuck in them walking on his farm.

And now the wonderfull Mn DNR allows 30 pound pull bows to be used for deer hunting there WILL BE many more deer wandering around sporting arrows.

The DNR is really phocked up. Whomever makes the decisions is one sick person.

A lot of those deer with arrows in them is the product of hunters who don't practice enough, or are too impatient to wait for the right shot. Or they are too inept and inexperienced to get in to a place where they will have a clean shot. 30 pound bows would only make that worse.

there plenty of deer...

what you mean is you might have to actually work to find one instead of having them walk right up to you...

Agreed, having hunted with bow and arrow and understand how difficult it is to get close enough to a whitetail to get a killing shot I don't use bow/arrow.

In fact IMHO use of any deer rifle smaller than a .308 class rifle is not advised.

The Mn DNR has also made it legal to deer hunt with a .22x caliber gun, really dumb. Who at the DNR makes these stupid decisions?

Snow on ground with wolf tracks in the snow around the dead deer.

You should get out more and view the world out there.

BTW Eagles and crows and hawks were circling the dead deer and there were many other dead deer with birds circling to consume the remains of the deer.

Snow is VERY DEEP (6+ feet) with a crust the wolves are supported by and the deer fall through and are trapped. The deer are 100% helpless, dead meat.

Metro deer will also be trapped by the heavy crusted snowpack and domestic dogs that chase deer for fun in spring. BTW if caught chasing deer, domestic dogs can be killed, shot or otherwise dispatched.

mmm..yeah, i spend the winters on the edge of the BWCAW..i track wolf kills all winter long...

how do you know the deer didn't just die there and were eaten. you failed to mention tracks of the hunt like a real knowledgable person would..

stick to the city, slicker...let those of us that really know the woods and the animals here talk about it. you can come here for your vacations and pretend to be a woodsman..i'll probably pull your truck out of the ditch for you.

again, plenty of deer. perhaps you just need to be a better hunter.

Used to go hunting with a guy, that was until be bought a winch. Now all he want's to is get stuck and then pull himself out. Could this be a contagious woodsman disease?

Wolves don't eat rotten meat, they like fresh kills. You sould know that if you are a real woodsman.

Hey Trigger. Hate to burst your bubble but wolves are the original dogs. They will scavenge and especially during extra harsh winters. Whatever takes the least amount of energy expenditure to fill their bellies. True, they prefer fresh meat, but hey, any port in a storm to survive.

When deer are stuck in snow unable to move the wolves kill them for food.

The kills we saw were not rotten, they were still warm steaming with nothing but wolf tracks around the kill.

Post your email address and I'll sent pics.

Hint, don't use your regular email address or you will be flooded with junk from wierdos.

Create a junk email address like a trash can. OR I can post a link to wolf(s) killing a deer.
