A True Civil Rights Icon: Professor Franklyn V. Beckles, Sr., he was the 1st African American to start & develop the Computer Science Department at Aiken Technical College, and successfully lobbied to have the historically racist College Administration, finally recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday in 2003!!
He helped organized The Historic Million Man March, in 1995, along with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan! And he was friends with renown book author Ivan Van Sertima, the Guyanese historian, linguist, and anthropologist.
From 1989-2003, managed and directed the first African-American Private School in Aiken County, South Carolina (a racist and politically corrupt City, among others in the U.S.A; like Augusta, Georgia). And continued to educate students through his Private School "Aiken Academy", until 2014. Making his School the longest running Private Accredited High School in South Carolina's History!! Currently, his son; Dr. Franklyn V. Beckles, Jr., is managing the Academy and renamed it- "The Children's Christian Center".
Professor Franklyn Beckles, Sr., is an internationally renown and respected College Professor and was the longtime, Director of the American Institute of Technology (AIT) in Antigua, and in the city of Montserrat, he made presentations to the government regarding the setting up of a branch of AIT on the island.
Prof. Beckles, educated hundreds of African-American men and women, enrolling high school dropouts, helping them to get jobs, allowing them to earn high school diplomas, to go to colleges around the Country, enlist into the U.S. Armed Forces, and to become productive & successful citizens in America. While the Aiken Public School System continued to failed them, discouraged Black men from becoming mentors & Public School Teachers, and tried to have many minority kids arrested or drop out of school. Prof. Beckles, was the only & first Private School Director to sincerely & successfully help these neglected minority & disabled kids get quality education, when NO ONE ELSE WOULD!!!

"Mr. Beckles, will always be remembered for re-educate school dropouts from both primary and secondary schools."
He said once,“Anyone can choose to attend his school in the morning or afternoon and won’t lose anything.”
Professor Franklyn V. Beckles, Sr., is a true hero, because more than any notable African-American, he cared & did most about helping children and minority students, giving back to his Community, and providing quality education to students who desired it!!
